I am looking to buy a day date and it has come down to this, i found two for very good price, one of them is a 1807, no papers but box.... and the other is a 18038, with papers and box....they are both lovely and in the same condiiton....1807 is slightly cheaper by around 1000usd...are there any reasons why i shouldnt go for the 1807? i know its not a quickset model but in all honesty that doesnt really bother me, changing it once a month is not a problem and it is 1000usd cheaper. so what do you say people? any reasons to say go for the more expensive version???

The quickset is a huge advantage IMHO if you are not going to wear the watch everyday. I think that the quickset will have better resale value ( it clearly does by $1000 at the moment) and probably be easier to sell unless the 1807 has some vintage collectibility to it due to its dial or provenance.

The other point is that the 1807 I believe has a "bark" finish and I think you may find that that many (TRF's own Barkmaster not withstanding) find that look to be dated and less desirable, again affecting resaleabilty and value in the future. If you like the look and resale is not an issue than the only real differences are quickset and $1000.

The more significant issue with buying a used day-date is the condition of its bracelet or are both watches on a strap by now? A worn out president bracelet is VERY, prohibitively expensive to replace.

Quickset is not only easier to use, it will hold its value better (thus the higher cost).

I would not choose a non-quickset model. The difference from non-quickset to single quickset is huge. The difference from single quickset to double quickset is not so big.

I read through your other thread...all I can add is don't go cheap to save money, research some more...spend more and have the watch which you really want!!!

well my other thread was more about the watch itself but now its about the models...i mean they are both the same to me, i kinda wanted people to say dont go for the 1807, because of this reason etc etc......or go for the quickset cos of this and this etc etc....
