Trip to AD
Before the trip the wife said no way. Arrived. Bought her a wicked awesome eternity ring full of diamonds. Now I'm talking to the AD about a sub no date :) See how that works? Hehe.

You have to plant the seeds first....so good first step. Rest should be smooth sailing.

While I was getting my new Patek 5969/1A sized my wife accidentally bought some hearts on fire studs.

While she was melting over the ring you should have made a package deal for the watch. "see honey, what a deal! I should just get the watch now and save us money, there will likely be a price increase any day." Look at the sales person, they nod, affirming the impending increase and make the deal… boom. Now that would have been smooth.

Ha! That trick doesn't work on my better half because she is not materialistic and very practical. I've used the "Ok. I promise this will be the last watch I will ever buy" twice now.

I think I'm in good shape. She warmed to the idea of me picking up another, and a Sub C ND might just be the last watch I'd want. Honestly. I'm not going to push it - but she seems like she's on board with it. I went in looking to get a Deepsea Blue Dial (a wait anyway), but a DS is just too big. I don't have a Sub yet. Wife liked the Sub too. We'll see what happens :)

Trip to AD
I just have a "secret stash" that is separate from our house funds. When it gets to the right amount I aim and fire. But I like your style. My wife's vice is vacations. 👑
Works well for me. I book a trip and can get a watch with the stash. Then the trip comes around and she is happy all over again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You got off light. I bought mine a Mercedes GLK - which should be good for another acquisition, or two.

Or you could be single like me and buy whatever Rolex you want and not have to answer to anyone. It truly is amazing how much disposable cash one has with no wife or kids.

Well done. What works with my wife is shoes and hand bags. Once she gets new ones, she is floating on air and then is the time to strike.

Spoken like someone who's been there. I just bought my dream watch last month. My wife doesn't care and probably doesn't even know. I just keep my hobby money separate from the household funds. It only took 30 years... |
