lol. I only get asked by my parents. It's somewhat annoying since the overtone is: shouldn't you not be buying those. I tell them I trust in the Lord and he provides.

I have found over the years that people only ask the "how much" question to belittle your purchase. Usually coming back with "well you could have bought 100 watches at Walmart for that!"

While at lunch a co-worker asked me how much I paid for my Rolex. I took off my watch and dropped it in a glass of ice water. After swirling it around briefly I put it down with the watch now at the bottom of the glass. I told him, yes it is a Rolex and it is worth every damn penny I paid for it. I next challenge everyone at the table to put there watch in the water but got no takers. Strange no one in the office has ask me about my Rolex since.

I would say....

For me this applies to watches, car other expensive things.

Most never ask. They ask my dad.

But if they ask me. I say

1. You really don't want to know how much I paid....
2. It was a birthday, x-mas present....
3. It is an investment.

or combo of the above 3.

Exception,
I would tell them the exact figure if I believe they are look to it too. So they don't get rip off or get a better deal.

Lucky you. All it took to shut up your co-workers was showing your watch is waterproof to the bottom of a glass of ice water!

"Enough" seems to be my 'go to' response. Unless the other person has an interest in watches.

The "but you can just use your phone to tell the time" one is the one that gets most boring ha

After that performance I wouldn't be suprised if they don't ask you about anything ever again...

people that ask at work to see the watch because it looks nice think it's a regular invicta or something, once they see the coronet and the word "rolex" then they "have" to ask how much I spent. I say the truth and tell them how much I spent. They open their eyes and think I'm crazy but guess what?!... I say the truth because I deserve every penny that went to this to reward myself for my accomplishments and I have no shame in hiding it

Generally the question is 'what kind of watch is that?'. If I reply with 'Rolex', it's almost always followed by 'ooo how much was that?!'
To avoid the situation, I now say the model name - 'it's called a GMT Master' or 'its called a Datejust'... 99% of people don't recognise the model names and won't ask about the price.

Them) how much did you pay for that Rolex?
Me) 2
Them) $2,000.00
Me) Too much
Usually gets a chuckle and stops any further cost questions.

If I don't know them I change the subject or just say a lot, but worth it. A family member I may tell them or just say it was a lot

Can't remember ever being asked...
Depending on whom asked I'd go with.
A)It was a gift
B)the actual cost
C) or Run
