What a collection! Just amazing! But I would leave the Daytona and take both Subs. Just my two cents

A Hotel Safe is easy to open by Hotel personel if they know what you have and if they are willing to rob you. You never know who is watching and who knows which thug! I do agree what TOM says but still with that Daytona we are talk 6 fugere watch, right? I would leave Daytona and Comex home and just go with the SUB! The risk is to big for just showing that watch to another WIS!

For vacations, my rule is to take things with me I can afford to lose. Rolexes do not fall into that category. Worse come to worse, I would wear one and leave others at home.

A TT SUB, Patek, Panerai are easy to replace. Try finding a pristine and mint Newman for 200.000 right now. GOOD LUCK NO CAN DO! Enjoy the Newman and Comex only on "safe grounds" :) Your collection is awesome btw! Wear it in good health and enjoy the vacation! Hehehe waarom lul ik in het Engels hehe. Zie nu pas dat je ook een NL'r bent. Zit je ook op onze RF? |

My post was a facetious response to the post that I quoted, not trying to say you are showing off Strictly speaking, I never said how old my wife is One time, I was on the plane and the guy beside me was using some fine tipped pen to duplicate a picture. It was very impressive and definitely a time killer. |

If you're flying private and have watches of this value then you're likely staying in the kind of place you don't have to worry about security as much. When I was friends with a guy flying private and wearing $100k plus watches we stayed in places that cost $30k a night, and we never worried anyone was going to steal from us, and all those places offered higher security safes and storage for valuables.
My guess is that if you bought those watches you did so to enjoy them, so take reasonable risks that only you can properly judge. Having been robbed at gunpoint before I am no stranger to the dangers that exist out there, but I still want to enjoy the things I bought to enjoy. Would I wear my Rolexes to Nairobi? No. Would I wear them to Sardegna? Of course! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Which one you bring is up to you. For the WIS crowd the PN or WG Sub should put you in their good graces but the Sub is more in keeping with the genre of the environs.

Sorry. I didn't realize you were debating bringing over a quarter mil with in watches.
I mean no disrespect. I'm talking to you, as if I were debating the same thing. That's just stupid. Glad to hear you are going to just being the subs. Personally, I'd bring one. But at least we are now being reasonable.

I'm leaving on a flight to Phuket in 12 hours. I know the area pretty well, but I won't be staying in a resort like the last time I went and don't want to walk around with my TT Submariner when I venture around. I am bringing my 17 year old stainless and gold plated Tag Heuer Sel. I want to be able to walk around and not attract too much attention while partying and drinking. People have been known to get drugged and then wake up the next morning with all their possessions missing. I am from Brooklyn, NY so I am always in a "New York State of Mind" wherever I travel. Don't make yourself a mark. Remember, that you are wearing what many people in the country you are visiting can't make in 10 years of hard honest work. Most people in their right mind at that level of poverty would jump at the chance of depriving you of your property. Most would think that if you can throw that much money away on a watch that you can afford to be robbed. If you are traveling on your own private plane then you can probably afford to stay in the most posh areas with the best security with other rich people like yourself. At places like this you probably will be safe, but that is not for certain. I know a few people that had expensive jewelry stolen from their very expensive hotel rooms. It all depends on you having situational awareness and common sense. For most of the people reading this, I recommend leaving your expensive jewelry at home when going to unknown or foreign places. The rules of the street apply wherever you go.

Personally I'd only bring 1 watch which is easily replacable if broken. And at least you know it's on you all the time
A couple of tips which I've picked up along the way : 1. Dress down the watch by fitting a plain 'boring' NATO strap. Don't use black - looks too dressy. Something like olive. I find this to be a very effective camoflage. 2. Have a watch specifically for going abroad. Something nice, but not too nice and easily replacable. E.g. I've got a 34mm white dial no-date Air King for this specific purpose. At distance no-one can tell what it is, no cyclops lens to give it away and the size makes it difficult to make out what it is even a close range. Have a great trip ! P.S. I do the same thing when wearing my rolexes to work... in my job (as a contractor) it's best not to be seen to have a better watch than the boss, especially when going for rate increases ! |

Revised answer: Since all of your watches are fake you are risking nothing if you take them on your vacation. I reckon a fake Comex, PN Daytona , fake WG Sub and the rest are worth only a few bucks so take them all and who cares what happens to them.

HL65 is making my day. I can't stop laughing... I am sorta surprised he doesn't own a fake example of all 100 superlative rolexes that are shown in Goldberger's book. |
