lol exactly. WG looks like SS unless it is laying next to SS, then you can slightly tell the difference. If you are getting WG and expect anyone to say "Wow that white gold watch is beautiful!" I think you will be disappointed.

Not everyone can pull off a YG Rolex.

The exclusivity of certain dials to precious metal rolex, makes them easy to spot if, you know what you are looking at (like most people on here!)
i personally love WG, YG, RG and Platinum

Agree. White precious metals are for those who appreciate them. Not for everyone.

By the way, the other day at a Christmas party, I complimented a lady on her YG DD (men's version) that she was wearing loosely over her red sweater with some gold bracelets, and she looked puzzled. I looked closer and saw it was a fake (and gold-plated), and I doubt she even knew it.

If you want a blue dial sub that's not two tone or yg, WG is your only option lol if you want a GMT with a two tone ceramic bezel that's red and blue WG is your only option :) if you want a dd that's not YG or RG and don't want to pay a premium for pt WG is your only option, That's how I see it. I like all gold.

Or is it purely from the internal feeling you get from owning a wg.
With a casual glance I can usually tell a WG GMT....definitely a WG DD.

I hate to beat a dead horse but white gold is not a white precious metal.

It is gold alloyed to LOOK like a white precious metal. Thats why it was created...as a cheaper alternative to platinum.

Bottom line is, in my opinion...if you like it wear it but Rolexes white gold has an awful yellow tint to it because they don't rhodium plate it like 99.99% of other manufacturers of watches and jewelry. In the jewelry world and other watch brand world when the piece starts to show yellow through it gets re plated with Rhodium. Even Patek offers this.

I seriously think the biggest disservice to such beautiful metals as gold and platinum was the introduction of white gold. But I am a purist of sorts when it comes to rare metals.

These three watches give me more pleasure than any I have ever owned
These are watches worth the price and more to me and no I don't have money to burn I work hard for every dime maybe that's why they are even more special

No I am not a collector and yes I can easily tell the difference between the metals

I think if you have to "try to understand the appeal" why bother

You either get it or you dont

Problem:
1. I want to wear a gold Rolex watch.
2. I don't want to attract unwanted attention

Solution:
I wear a WG rolex. Problem solved.

-------------------------------------------------

As for the notion 'nobody knows it's gold'. Not quite true, I met another Rolex aficionado who commented on my WG Daytona "What's the point wearing a gold watch nobody knows?...." To which I said "Well... You do"

Another occasion, I met my friend who's a jeweler. He knew straight away it's white gold (as he was wearing a wg chain himself), even though he's not into Rolex / expensive watch.

Nice line Tom

I think curiosity is good but if you can't find the appeal and attraction from within then don't force it.

You mean to tell me you wouldn't enjoy wearing and owning those watches just as much if they happened to be in SS???? They are gorgeous regardless........other than owners and some watch aficionados, who would know the difference???? Regardless, enjoy!!!!!

It would be YOU that knows the difference. I for one don't buy a watch to appeal other people, so if I did have a WG watch I would rather them think its SS.

I am not a collector, nor do I have tons of cash to burn so I prefer to have quantity (one SS watch, one TT watch rather than 1 18k watch)

I have my WG watch because I want to have the look (yellowish hue) and feel (extra weight) and so I personally know its 18k gold.....and no one else, including my wife, know it's gold and not steel, the understated look is important to me....why?? Because I KNOW ITS GOLD!!

I actually like the slight tint. Looks more distinct from SS and platinum as a result. Plus no need to ever replate. Does Patek really plate their wg? What is under the plating? YG?
