Icon14 A week on the wrist: Tudor Heritage Ranger

So the new Tudor Heritage Ranger has been on my wrist for a week now – from a small-town AD in Italy, to Florence, to Paris and home to Hong Kong. So far I really like it. A lot.

The well-balanced dial is of course highly legible (rather similar to the Explorer 1016 but much larger) with a rich creamy lume. The slightly domed crystal works well with the dial, which is framed by a blacked-out rehaut, and every surface of the bracelet and case, except for the slim outer rim of the bezel, is brushed.

I really like the steel bracelet, too, which is similar to those used on other heritage models, and do appreciate the old-style lack of end links as a change of look and feel from my other Rolex and Tudor watches. I’ll probably keep it on all the time, unless I find a good distressed leather strap sometime in the future. Lug holes make changing straps very easy.

The matte red seconds hand is gaining about four to six per day, depending on overnight positioning, and if it doesn’t settle in somewhere lower than that over the next month, I’ll probably drop into the local RSC to have it regulated (as they did with my THC).

I won’t say that 41mm is the perfect size, but it’s comfortable on my 7.27-inch wrist and easy to get used to. So let’s see how long the honeymoon lasts.

Thanks for the update. I was wondering how you would like it and how it would behave. Nice vintage look with great legibility. Enjoy the new romance!

I am not familiar with this one. It looks very nice. Do they have a fitted end link option?

Thanks Adam. Looking good my friend. I've become interested in the Tudor Fastrider (panda dial)... will keep looking at Tudors!

That is a gorgeous looking timepiece. Thanks for posting this review. I'm curious about the lume. Have you checked it out? What color is it?

Looks great Adam.

Just wondering, does it have any AR coating on the crystal?

Thanks very much for all the comments everyone. To answer some questions...Eric, no there is no fitted end link option, just this or two leather straps, all with an extra nylon camoflage strap. Bharat, the lume is all green, despite the hands looking blue in the iphone pic below. No AR, Julian. It's a lot more reflective than the THC.

See here for a real review: http://bulangandsons.com/the-new-tud...-review-part1/

Cheers.

Doesn't look too bad in these photos but in real life the lugs tapered too thin IMHO that they don't match the large dial. I liked it before but I wouldn't consider it now.
But glad you enjoying it.

The taper is thin, you're right, and while that doesn't bother me looks-wise, it could be a problem years down the road if the lugs were poorly polished.

This is the first Tudor Heritage case I have seen that isn't fat, by the way. As you can see, its case is quite a bit slimmer than the THC's, which is a big plus, although it doesn't have the THC's flat back. I have also put in a couple of other size-comparison shots, with a 16570 and a 11470.

I've noticed that the Tudors are slightly bigger than their rolex big brothers with a 22mm light size rather than Rolex's 20mm. However my wrist size is very small and they still don't look too big so I don't have a problem with it.

Great review, we shall have to see how long this honeymoon phase lasts, I feel it would look a bit better with a 20mm bracelet, would make the lugs look less thin, lugs should be no wider than 1/2 the case size IMO. The dial looks alot better than i've seen though, still wears a bit too big for my liking, but glad the size doesn't affect you.

How thick is it compared to your Explorer?

Thank you for a nice review. I have had my Ranger for a little over a month and have enjoyed it. I have worn the Camo strap and several aftermarket leather straps and all is good with them but I really like the metal band. The lack of end links gives it a retro look and it is comfortable to wear once you size it right. My question when I bought it is will I like it long term. As of now, yes.

Adam, thanks for the update, in my opinion the Ranger looks like it just came out of a 1960's time capsule!
