Sea Dweller 1665 Case

Hi Guys, I would like to know what do you thinks of this case

My main concern is that all the 1665 that I have seen online have the case rubber seal in the case and not in the case back

Thanks in advance

According to the serial number, this watch dates to 1970

Things that I have noticed on other Sea Dwellers (1665) from late 60's til around 1977:

- They have the whole serial or at least the last 3 digits stamped in the case back

- Some have the year of production stamped in the case back

- Most of them have the year and the whole serial (Or the last 3 digits) stamped in the case back

Any help would be much appreciated

Case back is newer than the case. I don't like the shape of the case, position of lug holes in relation to the lug/ chamfer.... What are you trying to accomplish with this case?

As above, case back is newer than case.
Need better photos.

I bought this case on eBay as "Genuine Rolex" (According to the seller) for a project with genuine parts that I have

The thing is that all the Sea Dwellers 1665 that I saw, have the rubber seal gap en the case and not in the case back like the one I posted on the pictures

I'd suggest a return to seller for refund.

Hard to tell from the pictures provided, but the overall shape of the case looks incorrect. When something looks incorrect it typically is.

the obvious give away is the way those lugs curve.

I'd be curious to see a real shot of the engravings......
That said, I would tend to agree, this case does not look good.

The HEV doesn't look right either. Compare it to others, including my former DRSD, and you'll see what I mean. (Also, is that a top-hat crystal on it? Makes me suspicious.)

I am seriously no expert here but to my eye, the lug hole on the left is lower than the one on the right

These are a couple of pictures of the Helium Escape Valve side of my 1665. This one wasn't a project.

I bought it and sent it to Rolex in Dallas for service

Everything you have shown so far hints of the case being counterfeit.

I already packed it and I'll be shipping it out tomorrow for a refund which the seller agreed

The seller told me that he/she has paperwork from "A very important jewelry store in Miami" saying it's genuine

The engravings are incorrect.
Long E and that 3 is laughable... should be a flat top 3

I've seen much better engravings coming out of china

The sad part is that this case will just be sold again and again until some uneducated Person accepts it as genuine.

That's why when I buy a Vintage Rolex I send it ASAP to the RSC in Dallas. To check the authenticity and if it's not registered as stolen

Even if I tell them not to do the work on the watch, receiving an Estimate from them makes me believe that everything is correct with the watch

Correct to send back that junk, totally fake. As said the engravings are poor as well as the case design.

You should read the thread on how to spot a fake shield Tudor sub in the ref section. It would have helped you here.
Did u pay $3900 for this?

Big picture: On the one hand it's immensely helpful to see posts of what appear to be fake dials, cases, etc. as it works to educate the eye. [Obviously it's helpful to the OP as they are asking a sincere question: "How does this look?"]. On the other hand, it's depressing to know/feel that, at some point, the faked thing will most likely find a home courtesy of a less suspicious buyer. Someone's always gonna get burned.
Sucks.
