My new old Sub

Picked this up at the mall this week . Dont know much about it but it was between this and sub from the 90's or this from the 60s I went with this.
The bezel does have no spring and goes both ways but only if you turn it, it does not spin alone. I was told for these models that was normal

You are right about not knowing much about it... and hopefully you kept the receipt so you could return after you do learn more about it.
Can you post a better picture of the watch, dial, bracelet?
Did they tell you the dial is redone?!
What other information do you have partial serial, reference number, picture of the inside of the caseback, movement, bracelet/clasp..

I assumed most likely the dial went through a replacing at sometime during a service. No I have not opened the back up. What are the concerns? Because I will return it

Well, when buying vintage you should learn about what you are getting to invest in to determine if the price is in line with the item.
Unfortunately, the picture is awful and can't tell much from it, other than the dial..
Can you take better pictures of most of the watch?
You really should get all the information on it to learn more about it..
Did the seller not tell you what the model is, year of production, etc.?

I would recommend you take it to a watchmaker and open it up and get as much information as possible.

If indeed a 1960, it would be gilt era... As long as you are not looking at making it period correct, which would cost you thousands, and use as a beater.. it is fine.

But that dial is rough to look at..

I can't make out the serial
Is the bezel supposed to hang way over like this on these?

You could have picked up a much nicer more modern watch for similar money. I certainly wouldn't pay a vintage premium for a terribly polished old case and a bunch of parts that I know nothing about.

The last two numbers look like 32
Was it normal on these for the bezel to have so much hang over

I'm not sure that I would say the bezel has "hangover" , it just looks like someone polished the out of the case.

Not a terribly bad price I reckon. Did you buy it from someone that you trust?

Those photos are horrible, there isn't a focused one in the bunch. It makes any comments just a guess.

i can tell you a Mint condition 5513 with original parts from the 60's will sell for easily for twice this price and more.

This is not to say what you have isn't good value, but it's definately not original and will have service replacement parts etc. The fact that you can't read the serial number bothers me.

Have you opened the case back?

I dont like the looks of the flip lock on that bracelet. Maybe its the bad picture but it looks crude and doesnt look like it fits well.

Basically purchased sight unseen. Doesn't appear to have many original items and the lack of a serial is the biggest red flag. Last 2 digits means virtually nothing. Sorry

Can you get some clear photos? Somehow?
Right now, what it's revealing doesn't look encouraging.
I wouldn't have bought that, and had I, I'd be returning it today.

Will all due respect, that's the biggest problem. This Sub might look similar from 10 feet away, but a close inspection shows numerous issues, most of which have already been detailed above. Sounds as if you jumped into the minefield that can be the world of vintage Rolexes without doing any homework.

If it were me, I would absolutely return the watch for a full refund, if I had the option. The redone dial alone is a big deal-breaker, never mind all of the other problems, including the lack of a full serial number. I know comments can sound harsh here at times, but we're here to help. Good luck!
