Every one you see has a line of depth rating printed that small? Hmmm.

Return it if you can, pronto.

The money can be better spent on another watch and camera.

Uh oh..... depth over the Submariner...never seen another that way. RED FLAG !

I don't have the experience of most vintage collectors here. Run back to that dealer immediately if you can. Best Wishes!

Return it

I'd return the watch. Tell them it's a redone dial at best. Then take your money and buy an honest example from one of the trusted sellers on this forum-

Stunning examples Haywood Milton

Depth over Submariner is a good thing, even when accompanied by a few extra lines ;-)

It could be
a) 100% fake
b) a real Rolex fitted with a bunch of fake parts
c) a real Rolex with a bunch of service replacement parts
d) A mostly OK poorly polished old watch

Maybe "c" or "d" would be OK, but you have no idea what it is.

Keep it. You obviously want to. Send it to a Rolex Service Center and see what they say. You might be disappointed.

Many a watch comes with an appraisal stating that it is real, which in fact has significant elements that are either incorrect or materially detract from the value which a completely correct watch would have. The message from respondents has been well-informed and consistent. Return the watch if you can.

That serial number places it around 1967. The dealer either should have known that, or at the very least, done some cursory research to correctly date it.

If you're still on the fence about keeping it, could you tell us why? There's been offered-up numerous reasons for returning it, but you still seem unconvinced. Just curious.

I promise there are better, and fully legitimate, worry-free 5513s out there. I wish I had the patience to research, and shop around and see more examples than I did before buying my first Sub. Eventually, I got the one I wanted, and without any regrets. Since then, I have spent as much time as I could learning about these timepieces. And now I can shop with confidence.
And thanks, in VERY large part, to the community here on this forum.

Also, if you like the look of this watch, just wait until you do finally get an issue-free Sub in yours hands. You will absolutely appreciate returning this one.

I'd be very reluctant going back to that place. Check out the for sale watches here on the forum.
