Rolex Daytona- Seconds hand doesn't move
Good Morning,
Hope everyone is doing well and having a great day. So, I have a question for Rolex experts as I've no clue about this watch. I recently bought a Daytona from Bobs watches for my husband and when I received it, I saw its not running as it required winding. I turned the crown clockwise as mentioned in the booklet but the seconds hand doesn't move. It stays at 12:00 position. Can anyone help how to make the seconds hand move. Thanks a lot for all your help. |

Once you pull the crown out all the way to the winding position, Then the watch can be wound. Try winding about 20 - 30 times and then shack the watch, It should start running soon there after. If not, You want to send the watch back for possible repair. If you have a newer Daytona (116520)the sub seconds is at the 6 o'clock position, If it is an older Daytona ( 16520) sub seconds is at the 9 o'clock postion.

Ok assuming this is a legit post...first you’re a wonderful spouse for that gift/purchase. Bobs has good rep so I’d be surprised if it is broken. Seconds hand is subdial at 9am...are you looking at large chrono hand (longest hand pointing to 12?) that’s activated by the top pusher (2pm).

you are not confusing the second hand with the chrono one? look at the sub dials.

Rolex Daytona- Seconds hand doesn't move
Like the Omega Speedmaster, the Rolex Daytona uses ‘small seconds’, on one of the Sub-dials. The big second hand is the stopwatch, making if a Chronograph.

The sub dial at 6:00 is moving. So the large hand is stop watch? I was hoping that to move like my date just. Apologies for my ignorance. It’s a vintage M series watch.
Btw I paid 11300 for this watch. Is this the right price? Thanks for your response. |

The big ‘second' hand is the stop watch as stated.
I often leave mine on because I prefer to see it moving, but I am sure somebody will be along to say it will cause extra wear to the watch??? Great present - but a bit too late to ask if you paid too much. |

Seconds hand is located in the small sub-dial at the 6 o’clock position on the dial. The long skinny hand that points at the 12 o’clock position is for the chrono function and measures average speed on the bezel. It is activated by unscrewing the pusher at the top right side of the watch case and pushing in. To stop that hand you push the top pusher in again. To reset that hand you push the pusher at the bottom right of the watch case after unscrewing it.
Sounds like your Daytona is fine based on how you describe it’s working. Think you were just assuming the large skinny hand at 12 o’clock was the seconds hand as it’s not. |

You did fine. Search Daytona threads and you will see prices on all models have been spiking...whether it’s temporary remains to be seen but it’s an iconic watch- and one he will treasure because a) it’s a great watch and b) you gave it to him. Cheers!

Fair comment regarding 3 days option to return. I don't know about N Jersey price as I live in the UK, but from what I have read they seem to be appreciating in value throughout the world fairly rapidly.
I am sure he will be delighted - and I think most contributors on here would be! |
