Rolex Explorer I 14270 - Drilled Lug Holes Question

OK, so I am seeing 14270's both with and without drilled lugs. Were they made both ways? Was there a certain year where they switched over to non drilled lugs?

Thanks

I think lug holes stopped at around 1997 or so . I own a U serial one without lug holes...it was my first Rolex and I did not learn about such nuances until I researched about it further....

I have a S serial 14270 with drilled lugs. I think drilled lugs look the best, like the 1016 case.
