Is it me or something else?
Hi TRF,
Whilst wandering around the Tourneau today, I really was struck by just how incredible all Rolex watches are. The PM Daytonas, DDs, DJs, Smurfs, etc.--which tells you what they had--looked fantastic. Its not just that the Rolex watches look great under bright lights. All brand watches do. They're supposed to. The IWC's, Tudor, etc., also looked great. However, the Rolex watches just looked a cut above. Maybe its me and my desire to own a 16610LV, Sky Dweller, and perhaps even a GMT 1675, which is skewing my vision. I acknowledge my own bias. However, objectively, Rolex does seem seem to have some "x factor" quality that simply makes them stand out on an individual watch-to-watch basis. What do you think? Best, TA |

I have to agree, even though I have no way of quantifying it or even adequately expressing it.
There are two excellent examples that I happen to own, so I'm not extrapolating beyond the watches that I have experience with. Just before I clicked this link, I was looking at this picture of a BLNR. https://www.rolexforums.com/showpost...5&postcount=73 My thought was how utterly impossible it is to capture in one photograph, or even under the showroom lights, the incredible diversity of the BLNR bezel's reflecting properties. It is only capable of being appreciated under a near limitless range of lighting conditions. The other is my 1503, which is my first gold Rolex. I've seen very many gold watches in showrooms and I saw my 1503 many times in the showroom before I finally purchased it. It was only in the experience of wearing the watch in various settings that I began to truly appreciate how beautiful the watch is. I had to make myself take it off and put on another watch. There's just something about both watches that I could have never come to understand, if I had never had the privilege of owning them. Of the all the watches I own and love, including my five Rolex watches, there is something extra special about these two that I simply do not have words to explain--a certain je ne c'est quoi, I suppose is the only way to say it.

At this mid-luxury level I do think they stand out, esp as a range.

Rolex watches are special indeed. There are other high end brands that also have beautiful watches (PP, AP, Pam, etc) but nothing like Rolex

I think the beauty of it is that almost every watch they create winds up being iconic

Its not just you. They are great watches and Rolex in turn makes sure they are presented in such a way that they stand out from the crowd.
