I started with a 3800 then 5711 both gone and still have my 5712 since 2011. The 5712 dial is just so unique.

Both are great, but I prefer the clean layout of the 5711

It was a close call, but I had the option of either a few years ago and chose the 5712. At the time the AD was willing to discount the 5712 but not the 5711, so price diff was modest. To me, the best part of the watch is the dial and the 5711 has more of it to see. 5712 dial looks a little more grey bc of the clutter. Also, and this is a personal preference, I prefer a digital date and don't love the idea of a MP on a sports watch. On the 5712 I love the small seconds, PR, and micro-rotor movement, however, which made it a difficult decision.

I'm all in for the 5711. I don't understand the 5712 but it's good looking.

Interesting. After more than 100 votes, almost the same percentages as the last time I asked this poll question back in July.
I would have thought that the recent surge in 5712 secondary prIcing would have had an impact on the voting... |

I like the clean lines of the 5711, but unless you are wearing it in this forum, you better be really secure with yourself because you are unlikely to get a single compliment on it in your lifetime. You’ll never tire of it, but that’s partly because there really isn’t anything to get tired over.
The 5712, while less clean of a face, is quite interesting to look at (when I admire it on my wrist, I am almost always staring at the power reserve, or moon phase or small seconds hand or date-by-pointer)— all things that move/change over the course of the day/week/month, and also, all things the 5711 doesn’t have. The movement is also far superior IMO, and I actually like the pushpin date change versus having to use the crown as it makes it almost as easy to change the date after a 30 day month as a perpetual calendar because there is no need to unscrew the crown, which is far easier (and also less wear and tear on the crown). I also like the power reserve to know whether to put it on a winder or wear it if it is getting low. One more thing... from more than 10 feet away, it essentially has the same look as a 5711 (to others), so I like that “get closer and you’ll see more” aspect to it. I do wish it was rated to 120 meters like the 5711 though, even though I never plan to take it in the water, just seems weak to be the only Nautilus with less than 120 meter rating. |

I haven't own either but prefer the 5712. For 5711, I prefer the RG version.

Wow! The 5711 had early lead, but after 150+ votes, the 5712 has surged ahead (much like those re-sell prices!).
Keep those votes coming! |

There is obviously no right or wrong answer but it is pretty cool how the 5712 has now taken the lead in this poll as I thought it may not stand a chance. It is interesting how our tastes change over the years and we come back to watches that we may have dismissed initially. The 5524 is a perfect example. I think in retrospect probably 75% of the people who hated it on release day now think it is pretty damn cool (myself included). The 5711(Blue Dial) was my first Patek and although very versatile, over time I just got bored with it when I looked down at my wrist. Conversely, When I initially bought the 5711 it was because I thought the 5712 was a jumbled mess where they just randomly slapped a few complications on a dial. LOL! I had never seen the piece in person and was just going off of pics. Now having owned the 5712, I can honestly say for Me it is really interesting and at only .22mm thicker you get a beautiful micro rotor, MP Complication, Power Reserve Indicator, Seconds Sub Dial, and Date Function. That comes at an added price of $8,360 more but I am really smitten with this beauty and couldnt be happier with it. I know people say it is asymmetrical (which it is) but I love how they designed this piece and made a smattering of complications into what I refer to as Organized Chaos look so amazing! (If they make a YG 5711 with Blue Dial I would definitely be interested as the 5711R is a stunner) Sorry to rambleIMG_1728.JPG

The fact of the matter is this! Many 5712 owners- if they are honest with themselves would really quite like to have been 5711 owners if availability had allowed but couldn't be bothered with the wait/hassle. Up until 2/3 years ago blue 5712's (and blue 5980's) were much much easier to come by and for the person craving an instant Nautilus hit many hovered up this model instead.
As a consequence a crucial driver of the 5711 vs 5712 debate in recent years has stemmed from the insecurity these buyers have that they didn't quite get exactly what they really wanted, or certainly not what everyone else really wants (a key motivation amongst PP enthusiasts I've noticed)!! Finally like rainfall coming after years of drought the secondary market is starting to quench these feelings of inadequacy by providing the reassurance that their beloved 5712's have become so desirable and scarce that the over-list premium now almost matches that of the 5711. A collector with confidence would never have wasted a moment even pondering this question. Much of the magic of a nautilus comes from the uniquely lacquered blue dial that reflects light in a million different ways like no other watch face does- and on a 5711 you do get more of that, no question. However the creation of the 5712 (or 3712 you could argue) represents the zenith of all pp's efforts so far into the field of sports watches. Both in terms of movement- the 240 being one of pp's best loved vs the 324 which you is, by comparison completely unremarkable and common (having been strung out across the many of the brands more straightforward models) and the perfectly balanced complexity of the dial. As a final note, I think the chances of the 5712, having had along production run already, will be the next Nautilus to be discontinued, making it rarer still and thus inducing even greater appetite and reverence for this splendid, splendid timepiece. |

5711 for me too as it is more original to the first nautilus 3700

I have to say 5712 here. It really is my favorite PP, regardless of price.
