Just another voice from the crowd saying that I personally like TT. I could afford PM (if the wife allowed me to) but actually prefer the look of my TT DJ. It was a TT DJ that first caught my eye and brought me to the Rolex brand many years ago.

I always like to distinguish between a tt model that is ss/18 kt yg vs tt being 18kt wg/18kt yg.

So the argument about getting tt only as an Excuse u can’t afford a solid gold watch is thrown out the window because the tt is solid gold...just 2 different alloys.

I love the look of a silver metal and yellow metal together.

I am a 70s child and my uncle somehow got several watches in tt but wg/yg....no ss.

So it had the tt look some people like but had the weight of a solid gold piece.

Rolex does this with their tridor bracelets.

Imho tt subs; tt ym2 ss/rg , tt ym1 ss/ rg outshine their solid gold counterparts-simply be because of the amazing interplay between the yg/rg metals against ss/wg/ pt metals.

different colors.

Interesting article. That Tudor Steel and Gold is a lovely watch. Love the brushed gold finish on the links. I like Two Tone and happily enjoy wearing it as my Ivory Dial DJ2 confirms...

I’ve always seen gold and TT as two totally different things. I guess some might buy TT as a “budget” gold option, but I doubt it’s the majority.

I like the one TT I own.

Killer watch! I have the same one since 1997 and wear it in rotation often. Lot of Haterade being drank here

Consider the source. The author also said owning a stainless Rolex is like owning a Buick, which is silly. For one, a lot of people genuinely prefer stainless, or the dial/bezel colors available only on stainless models, or the brushed CLs on certain models. Besides which, a Rolex is still a Rolex. A Buick ain't a Caddy. A better comparison might be to say a stainless Rolex is like a lower- or mid-tier Mercedes, but one that has the same engine as the top-tier model.

I love my TT DJ41 and I don’t find it at all trashy. I would have the PM SkyD, but, in the UK, it’s far too much bling unless you’re a celeb or a footballer. So, for now I’ve had to resort to this. (Since I’m only a pauper. Lol)

I read the article...and the thread. I believe you said you agreed with the comment. Which means you think TT owners are trashy and poor.

Or, did I miss something?

Not to ruffle any feathers, but I agree with that. Still, there are some that like the look of two-tone and you don't have to worry about matching metals. If I were to buy a yellow or rose gold Rolex, it would be a Cellini. Realistically, however, I'd buy a better brand on an alligator strap. But to each his own, which is why there are many watches and many brands.

No Larry , you didn’t miss anything but I think he did...
Nothing poor and trashy about The TT Bluesy!!!
Or a TT DJ or any TT Rolex for that matter ...
What certain people fail to realize including our friend
is that the most recognizable Rolex watches out in the
wild are TT Rolex models ...

Here’s a visual to help with the imagination...

Whether he agreed with the quote or not, he answered 2 posts that quoted the article's sentence in his post as if it were his own writing.

Anyway, by the title "Oh My God..." and early into the article it's clear the author wrote it in a slightly over-the-top vein designed to humorously tweak a few noses with regards to men wearing jewelry, watches, and gold watches using stereotypes, to include stereotyping the stereotyped perception by others.

The author is suggesting the perception exists in this "Modern Gilded Age" a gold watch signals "Tacky-ass and/or Trashy" and SS signals "Poor" (therefore, blended G and SS = "trashy and poor"). Yet, we are talking about Rolexes. Where's the actual "Poor" in the Rolex equation?..there isn't one, which the author knows quite well. He is also promoting TT watches in the article, not bagging them. The fact that he is promoting them should also be a rather large clue that this particular statement (out of many like it) was obviously meant to be a humorous pseudo-formula at the heart of misguided perception and stereotyping, but I see many didn't get it or have taken it way too literally, even personally.

Anyone that refers to people who wear $10,000+ watches as “poor” has lost all perspective of the real world.

If you agree with said person, you likely suffer from the same malady.

^^^This makes the most sense.

Too much literal thinking and perhaps a little defensiveness seems to promote misunderstandings and foster some (I think unnecessary) hostility.

The article was tongue in cheek and written for reaction. Now it's turning brother against brother.

Let the madness stop!

Two tones are fine, just not everyone's taste. Plenty of stainless and solid PM's that I don't care for as well.

Now how about Tommy Tutone? Anybody remember them? "867-5309/Jenny"

TT Rules

I bought a new 40 mm DD.
Had it for about a month and while it’s a beautiful watch it’s too much gold for me.
Sold it and bought a TT blue sub and a Panerai 716 Mare Nostrum.

For me it’s not a matter of affordability but just too much gold.
I also own a white gold gmt and TT Datejust Wimbledon dial.

I have the new DJ41 with the Jubilee bracelet, TT with a fluted bezel and chocolate dial. I'll never sell it. It is the most comfortable watch I own and I, being a serial flipper, still love it to death.
