I made a mistake

And tried on a black dial 5170. Now I’m thinking about which watches to move around.

The only one I’m ready to get rid of is my 116520. It’s hard to strike a balance between quality and quantity.

I wouldn't sell the Daytona for the 5170 for simple reason, residual value, Daytona is like money in the bank but 5170 will get a big hit in value. So unless you are 100% sure that same situation will not be repeated soon with another watch, I suggest sticking to the Daytona.

adding that money in the bank has no real return these days and the 116520 I m expecting rocketing prices if the folks realize how much nicer than the ceramic version.

I mean I’ve been very fortunate to see and strap on a lot of great watches. For some reason, Whenever I saw a 5170, I never put it on before though.

It felt very much at home on my wrist.

My collection is full of brand staples too, 5711, 15202, lange 1, etc. so selling any for a 5170 is a tough decision.

Got to go for the watch first, and have resale as a distant second.

I'd sell the Daytona and one of those happily for the 5170, esp one of the etcs.

I tried to take a pic but the lighting was terrible and full of reflections.

Thanks to others for the input. I haven’t been mentally preparing to move anything else aside from the Daytona so I need to do some soul searching.

Hold your horses and buy it when you are ready! Your collection is too good.

The Daytona you can have again, the transaction cost of selling and buying shouldn't be much especially when you are now talking about a $50k watch (+/-). On the other hand I'd want to be a little more certain that it's the illegible black dialed 5170 I want before I hand over my $$$ as your loss there could be materially higher.

You should also wait for the more knowledgeable PP guys to chime in on the 5170. It's a watch that sells for a material discount new, more so used. That might be important to understand if another $50k in watches gets you to that point where residual value is a consideration. If $50k is okay money then just buy it.

I definitely don’t disagree with you. I’ve also been considering downsizing the number of pieces I have as well so they all get more wrist time.

I’m strictly looking pre owned. I’m ok buying at 50ish but not new. I like both black and white dials for different reasons. I have not tried on a white dial yet though.

This is amazing. What you guys are talking about. It happens to me all the time. It is very bad. We must be content with out collections for a little while at least. It must be some kind of watch sickness.

It's easier if you don't live near any ADs. I only get into London a few times a year now, but if I was there most days, then temptation would be very hard to resist.

I actually started off liking the black dial, until I figured out it was difficult to read in certain light. Today I much prefer the white dial with pulsation scale, and having seen them side by side it was definitely the white.

Hopefully you can seen each variation in the metal. Good luck.

Great watch but as others said it is soft and the black has legibility issues. The white gold hands disappear into the black dial in low light. The 5370 has luminous hands. Much better.
