Oil removal off concrete.

Hey all, can someone tell me the best way to remove oil stains that leaked out of my generator onto my garage floor? Thanks.

I’d start with kitty litter to soak up what you can.

I got some on my flag stone patio over the summer and tried a billion things. Nothing so far has worked. I asked my contractor and he said once it’s there it’s there. Let me know if any of these work and I’ll try too!

Break cleaner has always done the job for me. But you have to get on it soon after the leak before it soaks in.

Muriatic acid. Be careful, use PPE that is recommended. But we used it all the time as a kid because we were broke and our cars always leaked oil.

Yeah, my choice as well for strong oil stains. Got to be careful though as it will eat concrete, especially the smooth variant.

Repair or get rid of the generator.

I think flagstone is fairly porous. Once oil soaks in a couple mm you’ll need to leach it out.

You can try MicroBlaze. It’s a biological product. Apply it to the stone, then keep a moist towel over the area for 30 days. The bugs will eat the oil and you may get enough leaching so the stain disappears.

Can’t you etch it with that chemical stuff that you use before you paint over cement?

Muriatic acid. That was going to be my suggestion too, although you do risk lightening the area. Which is worse, a light spot or an oil spot?!

I would cheat because I have an industrial steamer https://dupray.com/steam-cleaners/st...hoCcRIQAvD_BwE

Do you have a small steamer? If not, I would try Dawn and REALLY hot water as others have suggested. Work your way up to stronger degreasers from there.
