Anyone who thought ridiculous second hand pricing could last was dreaming. It's had a good run, but the Mr. BS's are going to be the unwinding when shtf. Certainly had their share of animalistic behaviour. It's a shame it had to be brought forth like this.

Depending on the time horizon. For someone with 20, 30, 40, or 50 years horizon this will be a blip. Alternative being fighting for that last can of tuna in mad max gear.

I would go as far as saying I saw well over half the members in past threads saying stuff like ‘this is the new normal!’ Or ‘it will never go down!’. Well known, older members too. It absolutely boggled my mind at the naivety.

Honestly it is a punch in the gut for somebody who loves horology, to speak to somebody who’s wearing a Nautilus and they literally tell me ‘this is my savings account right now, don’t really know much about it other than everybody wants it, haha’. True story, NYC ‘19. Not that I care about their knowledge, but more that these are the kind of people rendering the watch unobtainable for people such as myself.

I knew this entire circus act was coming to a conclusion soon after that conversation. Horrendous that a deadly disease is the catalyst, but it is what it is.

114060 in HKG

Maybe not a "hot" piece, but i have been tracking this for some time.

MSRP for a 114060 is HK$62,500 (c.US$8,050).

I saw a watch listed here, BNIB, available for pickup/collection at an AD for HK$65,000 (US$8,384), a US$350 "premium". The grey premium was previously US$1,000 before.

So, think we will start to see them available at MSRP at the AD for this piece, at this rate.

But I'm not buying. Maybe I can get one MSRP from an AD in Singapore / Australia and even save on some tax.

I got a call from a closed AD on Friday, I was offered a Rhodium YM40 if I paid 50% deposit now by card and would be able to collect it when the store reopens.

It was the new normal. Now it's changing, and it will change again, and again. That's the thing about normal.

If we're talking naivety, one could equally argue that it's very definition is the belief that anything can maintain a steady state in a free market economy which cycles, sometimes wildly. Or that things in a particular period of time should be defined as the normal for ever. The best we can ever say is nothing stays the same.

As you say, the catalyst for the end of the insanity is something no one should ever wish for. Nevertheless, it has triggered consequential things which were going to happen at some point.

Just look at the change in pollution levels after less than two months. Now that's news. Who cares about the cost of watches?

I 100% agree everything is cyclical and any reasonable individual should also conclude that. My point about the previous posters is they were also claiming that the prices will NEVER return to normal, and it is the new normal *forever*. Hence my naivety comment. Perhaps you read my post wrong, but we’re actually wholly in agreement

Air pollution still pretty bad in Thai though

People are forgetting just how many of the BLROs, Hulks and BLNRs people are hoarding.

There will be far far far more supply than demand in the coming months especially for anything listing above MSRP. That is for sure. Demand has dropped off the cliff and even at MSRP demand is low at the current time.

Always will be 1 or 2 ppl buying at MSRP but there wont be 1000s upon 1000s lining up anymore.

Over the last 3 months , the price has gold has gone up - presumably as people see it as safer then currencies

Maybe some people will see Rolex in the same way, which will help maintain their value

You can hold gold in an etf rather than physical goods. Not sure you can do that with Rolex (although I’m sure some bright spark has thought of it).

forensic anthropology benefits
Why you spamming every single dealer? LOL

Just wait if your serious about buying something. Another 1-2 months wont hurt and $14k for the CHNR might be a very very good offer. He might even regret not selling to you now but maybe the gray dealer bought it for more himself so he's trying not to lose money. Its only been 4 weeks since the US really started taking the virus seriously and only like 2 weeks since shutdown of some major cities. Dealers will be slower to reduce prices than individual sellers.

The more individual sellers who are holding onto these hyped pieces hit the market it will force the grays to reduce as well.

I'm certain that most of the gray dealers are following the Forum, so they know by now there's a guy from Croatia who's testing them just for the sake of it .. LoL.

Dealers are trying to ride out the wave as much as possible, staring down at a tidal wave of buyers looking for MSRP.

Once they realize this recession will last 12-18 months, those offers will be taken in a heartbeat. Be patient. It's still early.

Interesting. You say that with certainty. Tell me will Tampa Bay win the Super Bowl this year with Tom Brady?
