No price increase?
Was there no price increase for watches we can't buy anyway?

Nope. Every week, that British guy on YouTube says there is a confirmed price increase for 1 Jan, 1 Feb, 1 Apr, 7 Apr, etc. — and he has been WRONG every single time. Just makes it up to help his secondary reseller sponsors.

Why should they increase the price? The fact that secondary prices > MSRP is one of the strongest (yet hidden) drivers for Rolex (and Patek steel). It makes the references appear to have strong embedded value, and I cannot think of any other watch brand (not even Patek) that has the same level of brand equity across almost all their references. Outside maybe the Cellini references, most other Rolex watches (even PM models) can be expected to gain/keep their value. Virtually all other references outside Rolex, Patek and AP cannot say that, and most pieces have significant drops once bought. Some may say ‘it doesn’t matter if you plan to keep it forever,’ but it actually does matter when it comes to brand strength.
People forget that Rolex is trying to survive in an industry (mechanical time pieces) that has been obsolete for decades and is currently facing a crisis that makes the 70s/80s Quartz Crisis appear like child’s play. |

Formally, no. Informally (from ADs and secondary/gray dealers), potentially, as Rolex doesn't have to change their MSRP for dealers to charge (or "charge") more.
If Rolex's announcements further increases demand, ADs and secondary dealers may potentially charge more, although this wouldn't necessarily be systematic across all Rolex models and it wouldn't necessarily apply to all Rolex buyers. |
