Dumb question re 116508 wait time
So my wife, *who really does not support and barely tolerates my rolex hobby) told me she likes and wants a men's gold rolex.. and I took that as my limited chance to go buy a PM piece without getting put in the dog house or having to buy a bunch of handbags until i was forgiven... email my AD and come to learn PMs are even hard to get now and the green face gold daytona is like borderline impossible..
Anyways, I really want the 116508 with the green face but apparently that's just insane to expect from a dealer... I am just trying to figure out how difficult it actually is to get... or if its just one of those everyone says it takes forever and then it doesn't so I feel special sort of situation.. I was told the BLNR would take years but I got it pretty quickly and maybe that was just awesome luck but is the demand vs production on the 116508 w green really that different than the delta of demand vs production on the BLNR... Anyone here have a recent good experience picking one up from an AD or is it as bad as it maybe seems? Thanks |

It is among the hardest models to get from the entire catalog (and I’m including SS models in that category). Much harder than a BLNR. It may be the single hardest PM piece of all.

Green dial daytona is exponentially harder to get than the BLNR. Basically impossible without major purchase history at this point

It is as bad as it seems. Like you've already experienced, it is possible to luck out on a steel piece, but that is not the case with the Daytona you're after. Might have a chance with another dial.

Green Daytona and GMT Meteorite are very difficult to get.

Normally 116508 YG Daytona green dial is one of the hardest to acquire at the boutique/AD. Most of the boutique/AD get only 1 per year.
My SA told me from the beginning that she won't be able to get it for me but I got lucky that the owner of the boutique like me, he gave me the chance to have it. Try your luck and ask for it, if you are lucky you might get it soon too. It took me about 2 months to get mine, I think it's good timing also.

That’s a beauty… thanks all. It’s funny… if it were widely available I probably wouldn’t be so eager to part with my money but now that’s it’s a challenge… I’m all in. They really got me.

It's a weird phenomenon isn't it? Seeing it quite a bit now with people being blown away by receiving "the call" for YM and two-tone Daytona's that up until recently had been sitting in display cases.

When the interview: “John Mayer, Talking Watches 2”, came out on Hodinkee, I talked with my wife, and we made the decision to buy one right then and there. We bought the white gold / blue dial for $31k, and I do love it!! Of course, I should’ve grabbed the 116508, Green dial for $43k at the time. Rookie mistake! Now I’m working real hard on our A.D. to make sure she knows that I’m REALLY want that next one that comes in the shop… Fat chance! ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Let’s cut to the chase. Are you one of the AD’s best customers? Ie. have you spent 100’s and 100’s of thousands of dollars. Recent thread by a member stated that a friend only qualified for one after a spend history of 1 mil to 2 mil at the AD in the UK. A friend of mine who has significant purchase history here was told maybe in 5 years and he has spent 100’s of thousands.. extremely hard piece to acquire

Extremely difficult. I’ll probably get one at some point when my AD gets one in. I do a lot of business with the AD though.

With this one, it probably just depends on your relationship with your dealer. My AD said he only gets one a year of the green dial 116508. It’s arguably the most difficult regular production PM piece to get, in comparison to the demand. And it’s truly a stunning timepiece! I love mine! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
