I’m not a a huge RO fan, but truth is that it was designed and marketed as a luxury SS piece. Yes I agree with the earlier post describing it as the first luxury SS watch. It was designed to take the fight to the Japanese quartz movement and it created a new market segment. This was followed by the VC 222 and the PP Nautilus - not in that order.

The sub did not play at all in this space. At SS, I still don’t think it does.

I would keep the AP and add a moonwatch.

I did a similar thing 5 or so years ago. Had a 15400 black face and after a year or so sold it for what I paid (less than retail) and bought a white face 116520. Other than the crazy price now of the 15400 I do not miss it.

Now count back from the 20 on dial and the hashmarks 19,18,17, down to 13 then 10. Now, I’m not blind my friend and Rolex clearly intends one to extrapolate or estimate. It’s as clear as day. There are 21 total hashmarks and 3 numbers the 10, 20, and 30. Sorry your wrong.

Get your Daytona out of the safe and take a good look. Yes, I know you won’t hear anyone on the Insta book complain about this is their only concern with investment value, I for one I’m interested in a watch that does what it supposed to as advertised. The Daytona fails here period.

Wow learn something new every day. You’re right, missing a few hash marks! Then again the other day I was sitting with a friend wearing a speedy, and noticed it wasn’t even running! Just for jewelry.

Can we at least agree the dayona is suitable for timing up to 7 minutes?

Based on looks and not which will hold more value down the road it would be the Daytona for me.

I wouldn't even though the Panda is a beautiful watch. AP is a different class.

I have both. Not an easy choice. AP if ofcourse different league so based purely on the watch it self its a no brainer. However if i would have to bet which one will increase in value more its the Daytona. Daytona is easyer on the wrist and more robust/suited for daily as well.

Looking at it objectively, if both are worth (roughly) the same value, then it's only logical that a trade would benefit you only if you liked one significantly better than the other.

I may have missed it, but I don't get that feeling in your post.

Either watch traded at dealer is only worth $29,000 USD though. No even trades allowed . Going to have to bring $8-10,000 to throw away.

+1. although, the RO is pretty nice........

Save for the Daytona and lose the sub to make up the difference.

Personally I think both watches are fantastic pieces and my goal will be to one day own both.

I am not very familiar with AP but from what I gather, their craftsmanship and finish is a tier higher than that of Rolex watches. But at the same time, the 116500LN is one of the most iconic design of any watches I know of, the movement stood the test of time, wears great and is extremely durable. I guess I'm just trying to say both are great watches. Good luck!

While I can't say the same for the 15400, the Daytona SS desirability and appeal have only increased since I started collecting in 1988. I will leave it at that. Daytona is my choice.

With or without hype, Daytona is a great piece, and the MRSP different won't change the fact that Daytona is much likely to appreciate more, so I'd make the trade if I were you and I have a desire for it.

Definitely prefer the Daytona.
Respect for AP history and craftsmanship, but they are not good looking watches (to me).

Oh, nothing bad about the Aquanaut from me - but I would probably go for the travel time, if I had to do it again. I figure that the added thickness might also help a little bit regarding the robust feeling.

Hype aside, secondary value aside, when the collection shifts to HH, I start finding the Daytona the only watch that fits the 'beater' robutness. It is a Rolex after all.

So fro example, if the collection were PP 5470, AP15202, ALS/FPJ any watch, and a Daytona...well...the Daytona is the only watch to beat around with confidence. So I think it really depends on where you plan on taking the collection rather than a heads up decision.
