AD to limit 3 purchases per year. Anyone heard of this?

In order to be limited to three, you’d first have to be able to buy one…

Have you seen the cases lately

Rolex controls its sales to AD’s. They do not control AD’s sales.

I’m picking up my third of the year this week, and my AD hasn’t mentioned any limit.

I know several other local buyers almost certainly buy more than three pieces per year.. some might be closer to three per month.

I spoke to my Rolex AD last week and he heard the rumor only through social media. Nothing has been confirmed by Rolex.

You'd be pretty disappointed. I have over $50,000 of spend history in the past few weeks, and no Daytona yet. You'd also probably be denied a visa at the moment unless you have a job or family here.

I know local buyers are preferred too. There are a couple big overseas buyers, but we're talking about the type of people who fly in on a private jet to pick up their watches. (e.g. people like Drake. As far as I know he isn't a client, which is why I don't mind using his name as an example.)

Like everything else, it probably also varies from customer to customer.

Great, I haven't been able to secure a single Rolex this year, so I guess this means I'll get 3 watches in the coming months? Right?

Was told that AD likes so spread around their hard to get watches.
Obviously
VIP list gets first dibs
-Those who have a good spending history
-potential of new client starting relationship who isn’t a flipper.

I got the call. BLRO or Sky. Picked the Sky since I want to expand my collection and not a flipper. If flipper would have picked up the BLRO instead.

I think the OP misunderstood the AD... Is what he actually said was that he is only going to get 3 watches per year in from Rolex...

Show me an AD with that much inventory and we can have a discussion. LOL

Also, wording matters. Rolex doesn’t give a crap, warrantee cards even went to just a date with no name. When people say “Rolex” says: that really means, YouTuber needs more views, “AD says” usually means that AD doesn’t want to sell you anything, bugger off.

Even more bs is the irony that you can’t buy more than three, bro, we can’t even buy one.
Totally agree on this. Some AD somewhere lied to his piss poor customer & words and rumors started to spread. If i have a case full of $ i'll prove that this is total nonsense. If money can buy you supreme court judges, wtf is afew rolexes

I think this has all started from the WOS group in the UK. They have a policy of 3 Rolex's on a wish list at a specific time. It's also a similar policy to not being allowed on numerous lists within the same group (Goldsmiths, WOS and Mappin & Webbe). At least that's what I was told. But we all know for obvious reason that this doesn't mean you aren't allowed to buy more that 3 per year. VIP's can and will buy as many as they want. I guess it's just a way to stop people from being on numerous lists and also to stop people from being on the list for ALL the professional watches that everyone is after.

How many more than 3 per year do people feel they must have?

There are other brands.

I think the story shifts across ADs and Sales people. But for many, if they were told they could only buy 3 and then actually were able to buy 3, I think it'd be a great deal.

I think you can buy as many Datejusts and Cellinis as you want. Also if the customer is valued, I dont think anyone counts these.

Guessing that SAs are using “Rolex said” to cover for “management said” in order to avoid all of the exception requests that the latter would invite.

So we went from hoarding toilet paper to hoarding Rolex watches. Look folks, I'll break it out for you... None of these things are essential for if economy crashes.

AD: Welcome to the Rolex Superstore! How can I help you today?
WIS: I'd like to see a submariner
AD: As if! Even I haven't seen one of those in 2 years. I can put you on the wait list?
WIS: How long do you think it would take before I can get one?
AD: No telling
WIS: How long did the last guy who got one wait?
AD: about 15 minutes. Paperwork and such.
WIS: Is there even an actual wait list?
AD: Not in the way you might think of one
WIS: Well in what way is there one?
AD: In the way we're talking about it now
WIS: how 'bout a GMT?
AD: a what?
WIS: a Rolex GMT
AD: oh right, I think I read about them once
WIS: do you have any men's SS watches?
AD: not a one
WIS: what do you have then?
AD: I have earrings and engagement rings
WIS: What about watches?
AD: buy some of this other shyte, then we talk watches
WIS: I don't want any of that
AD: I thought you wanted to buy a watch
WIS: those aren't watches
AD: but it could lead to a watch
WIS: so if I empty this outhouse of jewelry I can have all the watches I want?
AD: Whoa there professor. Limit of 3 per year!
WIS: how long have you worked here?
AD: 5 years
WIS: have you ever sold a watch?
AD: Hah! I'm not sure they even exist

If you mean ‘three hard to get pieces’ it’s certainly true at ‘my’ AD which is a branch of Goldsmiths (who are part of the Watches of Switzerland group) in the UK…

(Who have been excellent in securing me many hard to get pieces over the years so I have no reason not to believe them)
