OP 36 Blue vs Black
Does anyone have an opinion on which one is more versatile?
I already have a 39 Aqua Terra in black. I think black is more versatile, but the blue is tempting me. Thanks for your thoughts. |

Between those, I’d say go with the one you can get as both will be lovely. Assuming bright blue, not turquoise, right? Because the latter is less versatile and impossible to get from AD.
I’ve seen the blue in person in 34mm and the color is quite striking. Personally I’d spend a little more and get the Explorer (if available) if going black. But it’s a personal favorite of mine… |

If you're fastidious about color coordination with clothes and accessories and such, then black would be the more versatile...it can go with anything, given the neutrality of the color. Likewise, a white dial can work with any color scheme. Between black and white, I'd say black is more versatile, as I think it lends it self to casual and formal situations equally well. Blue is certainly a staple color, so you can't go wrong, depending on your tastes. So, between blue and black, not a huge difference in versatility, I would say. Again, some people are more fastidious than others about style choices. So, it really turns on your personal style. Which watch seems to suit your lifestyle and various interests and activities the best? Since they are mechanically the same, and inherently great "all around" watches, we are a bit in the weeds ruminating about dial color...
I have a blue OP in 36mm and the new Explorer 36mm, which, of course, is a black dial. I'd say the Explorer has a slight...emphasis on slight...edge in the versatility department. All that said, buy the watch you like. Never decide with your head. Follow your heart. Logic may indicate a different choice, but in my experience, when you follow logic's direction, over the heart's objections, there is a greater chance of dissatisfaction, in the long run. For example, you buy black, because logic says, "buy the versatile piece", but every time you look at the dial, even as you admire its virtues, a little voice will whisper "but...that blue!" So, if blue beckons, go blue. |

I prefer black dials but I want a blue DJ with a fluted bezel but I refuse to pay these ridiculous prices.
