911 - Submariner. Both classic design icons of similar age.

Both have kept the original styling attributes, IE you will always recognise a 911 and you will always recognise a Submariner!

End of story nothing more to say!

Allright everyone...time to buy a Porsche.
My wife will say mid life crisis.
I would if I lived in Europe where u can drive all year round.
Here in Canada when u buy a fancy car, you need to buy a garage with it. It get costly

No, no, no. Comparing Rolex to a Mercedes is an insult to Rolex and a ridiculously generous compliment to Mercedes. Rolex quality is light years ahead of Mercedes. Not even in the same galaxy.

Funny how people here put BMW over Mercedes while the germans itself see Mercedes steps ahead of BMW, especially interior and innovative wise. And interesting how many people here have bad experience with Mercedes. They had problems in the past but currently doing very good.

E-Class and S-Class especially are unmatched by any german brand at the moment.

@samson66 actually Macan and Cayenne are their best selling cars...

Perhaps Rolex is more like an '82 300D.

BMWs are more fun to drive, aside from that, all other nods go to Mercedes. It's funny that someone brought up the Mercedes built in Alabama.....I know MANY Germans that consider Bavaria (a la Bavarian Motor Works) to be the Alabama of Germany.

They are "currently" doing very good because they are new and have not had time to break down yet.

Innovative? "99% of all automotive tech is available to all car makers off the rack."

Enjoy.

If I was forced to make this kind of comparison it would be:

Rolex = Apple

Of course they are, that's what they were built for. They were designed to appeal to the masses. I don't hate either vehicle, I just hate they they sell the "economy" version of both with the Porsche logo on the back but without the performance that I thought Porsche was known for.

Base Macan <$48K with a 252hp 4cyl turbo that gets to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds. Wow! That's amazing!

Wife's Toyota Highlander <$43K with a 295hp V6 non-turbo 0-60 in ~7 seconds.

So a three row family SUV with basic V6 engine that can tow a boat is within one second of a Porsche "performance SUV" for $5K less in cost.

If they only put out the Macan, Cayenne, and the others with the most powerful engines I would be ok with them. But like I said earlier, a base Macan is just a CR-V with another name. It's not worthy of the Porsche name.

THIS IS A PORSCHE!

@Seibei lol, like no other manufacturers has problems. I would recommend to learn a bit more about cars and the innovation I mentioned before spitting some shit out your mouth.

@samson66 So? People buy Nautilus because it's a Patek Philippe as people buy a Macan because it's a Porsche but in all honesty neither deserve their name on it.

And still neither Mercedes or Porsche are a good comparison to Rolex, Lexus is – take it or not.

I agree, although I totally understand the sentiment about the Porsche comparisons. The reason why Rolex can't be Porsche though is simply because Rolex is too common and mainstream to accurately be a Porsche.

Everyone knows Mercedes, it's the luxury car icon that is accessible to the middle class.

That being said, I totally see the Submariner being the 911 of watches. I even used that comparison before I knew so many others online also did the same.

Now, this comparison really works well in the US where Mercedes is at its core luxury while in other countries Mercedes sells models such as the A/B class (not real Mercedes and hurts the image of the brand) that Rolex would never do. Still, Rolex does downgrade their watches and has an entry level market that is clearly defined by the inferior clasp they give models such as the OP.

Generally speaking though, Rolex quality standards are better than Mercedes so I can see why certain people here would be mad at the comparison though at the end of the day I think it's as close as you're going to get.

Like Mercedes is better than BMW

its just a matter of taste both are equal
just like Rolex and Omega are probably equal too
Omega is totally BMW in this comparison but like you I chuckle at the idea that BMW is somehow inferior to Mercedes. I've owned both and I prefer BMW by a landslide. Mercedes have "nicer" interior features but I could care less about that and as far as driving experience and performance give me a BMW any day.

Rolex is better quality wise than both car brands and Omega but comparing a watch to a car is always going to be tough.

People are sharing their opinion and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Your comment is rude and uncalled for.

The only Mercedes I take place in, is when I take the public transport. My actual daily driver is from Bombardier, so not butthurt at all.

Many people have opinions but many of them don‘t build their own opinions, they just spit some biased shit, actual opinion try to be as neutral as possible and cover every point of view but what do I expect here at TRF...

And no, I won‘t cry if I keep my attitude because I already asked for deletion but still waiting for execution.
