Toying with the idea of going back...

My first Rolex was a 14060M. Eventually I sold it and bought an 114060, as I much prefer the "solid links" and the glidelock clasp. And the ceramic bezel. After I bought my first BLNR, I sold the sub since it never got wrist time. Then like a moron I sold the BLNR and bought an Omega. I loved the Omega, but it doesn't have the quality or comfort of the Rolex, so I bought another BLNR.

Yes, there were a few others in there too. Hi, my name is Michael and I'm a serial flipper.

I've got a 116519 (Daytona) white face, croc strap, being serviced at the RSC right now. I don't think it will be my DD.

I never use the GMT function of the BLNR (when I do travel, I don't really care what time it is back home because I'm traveling for pleasure, not business) and the PCLs bug me just a little bit (a bit more flash than I'd like) so I'm thinking of selling the BLNR, again, and buying another sub. Aside from getting my glidelock back, and a brushed bracelet, I'll also be able to put a few dollars in my pocket, which is always a nice thing.

Thoughts?

Hi Michael,

I don't think I would make that trade, in all honesty. As a fellow flipper myself, I've never had much luck going back and forth...I seem to find myself trapped in an endless cycle of always wanting something else. So, my thought would be to hang tight and add the sub when you feel the timing is right to do so. Just my two cents...

I'd just stick with the BLNR. If you sell it, you'll want it back eventually! Maybe keep it and buy another?

The BLNR to me is the best looking Rolex they make, but you have to go with what you prefer!

I'm guilty of being a serial flipper in the past also. I've calmed down quite a bit. I've had two BLNR's in the past. I flipped one for a SD4K and another for a 16610LV, which I eventually flipped for a 116610LN. I just had to have a Glidelock. Like you I don't use the GMT function and at the time didn't care for the PCL's. They were too bright and shiny for work and everyday use.

Fast forward a few years. Life changed so did my job. I prefer GMT's over Submariners now. I have a few Seiko divers that fill that spot for me. If I had the BLNR now it would be a keeper.

If I could get one at MSRP it'd be a keeper and I'd quit a happy man.

The BLNR is a beauty but you have to go with what makes you happy.

I concur. I need help and at times would have loved to have been talked off the ledge in this way.

I feel your pain I am also a serial flipper, I regret some of my flips but you have to go with your gut, if you don’t like the BLNR, get the sub and I hope it stick. The only watch I’ve been about to keep is my speedy. It does kinda ruin the fun always wanting something different.

I don’t like the shade of blue on the blnr so for me this is a thumbs up. I recorgnize that I’m likely in the minority here

Tough choice, especially considering you've flipped the BLNR once already. I think the BLNR and the Sub can coexist in a collection.

Personally, I just made the decision to go for the Sub over the BLNR. Since you already have the BLNR, I'd say put it away for a while and add the Sub when you can. Then, go back to the BLNR and see if you are still "meh" about it. If you are, then sell it. If not, well then now you have two great references!!

Maybe try a Sub bracelet for your Blnr. You can always flip that as well.

The question you have to ask yourself is....”will you get bored with the more plain looking Sub?”. You have some bling now with color and PCL. The black Sub with brushed hardware will not pop like the GMT. Personal opinion.

Another vote for brushing the bracelet or getting a second bracelet for it

At the cost of going back and forth, couldn't you have just purchased both at this point? =)

More seriously, have you ever considered just getting a brushed bracelet from the sub to throw onto the BLNR? I think from a previous post I saw from Chadriv that it was possible.

This is also my favorite Rolex. 16570 sliding in second and the LVc and BLNR are a very close third.

I'm on the other side of this situation. I own the 114060 and really desire a BLNR (or some other GMT possibly) because I feel the need for a date and GMT function on my daily driver. Price and availability is keeping me from making the flip. If I were you, I'd make the change. Go for what you want if you can afford it.

I’ve been looking at both in a ‘grey’ window near my workplace recently. While the BLNR certainly is an amazing watch, the 114060 looks incredible with its high contrast black and white dial and bezel.

Why don’t you sell the BLNR (again) as well as the WG Daytona on a strap that was more “deal” than “desire,” and get that WG beautiful blue dial Daytona 116509 that you REALLY want? You’re welcome!

Hey Michael - keep the BLNR and put a SubC bracelet on it - you now have the perfect watch! The bracelet will run you about $2500 and you can pick one up on the forum - I got SubC bracelet for my BLNR here on TRF in 2013
