I would say the YM40 is still underrated as well the the Milgauss Z-Blue

Probably the most underappreciated sports model but my favourite

I would say the Yachtmaster 40 on Oysterflex. The YM line in general is underrated.

OP and Pepsi.

OPs are gaining in popularity, but they still are underrated imo. They are the closest descendants to those early Rolex Oysters that accomplished being the first dust and waterproof wristwatches. Basically the original Rolex watch.

Pepsi may seem strange because of its immense popularity, but I think it's still underrated. This should be held out as THE Rolex, ahead of the Sub or Daytona. In a brand known for tool watches, what's more tool watch than a watch purpose built for commercial pilots as a partnership with an actual airline? The design is that iconic Sub-style that people associate Rolex with with a touch of color. And on jubilee you get the iconic Rolex bracelet.

YM 37/40. Like the Subs better looking sibling but no one notices them because they aren't popular or cool.

Watch: What's on my wrist

Sorry but his may be a bit long winded. Last weekend when I was in the new Boston Boutique the cases were full of DJs. That was almost all there were. Aside from those there were ladies sized watches in OPs and a couple of Yacht-Master, a Milgauss, and a DSSD. I'd say that the availability points towards the least desirable by collectors standards. I seriously considered the DSSD but it just looked too large for my wrist. I already own a YM and MG and really find them my favorite Rolex watches.

The OP which I bought with the silver dial and the black dial are the only ones of the new generation which are selling near list in the secondary market. That is another indication that they aren't selling as well as the new trendy colored ones. What it lacks in trendiness it makes up for in real long term wearability.

As to why these are selling more poorly than perhaps other watches offered by Rolex. IMHO, Rolex popularity is all based on MSRP and trendiness for the watches. Cheap sells and promotes the model. Why pay for a YM o, SD, or DSSD when a Sub is cheaper. IMHO the YMs are better looking. Why get a MG when the pricing for an AK or OP is much cheaper; again the MG is much more handsome (some are put off by the lightning bolt which I feel really helps make the watch). I still find it ironic that the cheap watches sell for more that the more expensive watches on the secondary market but that seems to be the way it works. Low pricing drives demand causing inflation on the secondary market and ultimately inverting the values. If you actually bothered reading this; thanks!

I totally get your point about who would because of price. But my money is on the majority thinks the subs are better looking than the YM. If the sub was more than the YM I still would only look to buy the sub. The sub demand is not a trend, it’s popularity crosses decades. But that is why Rolex makes a variety, everyone has their own taste.

My view is it’s actually overpriced at retail due to styling but on the materials side underpriced, therefore a conundrum of a watch

I think the Cellini line has always been under-appreciated.
