Anyone have luck purchasing a watch in Europe?

I will be visiting Italy next week and was hoping to stop by the dealer there to see if they have anything in stock. Anyone have luck there somewhat recently? Been hoping to add a sky dweller or Daytona to my collection for a while now.

I was in Sicily - Siracusa AD in Oct of 2019. I saw a white gold Daytona in the window and immediately went inside, before I could say anything a suited rep was quick to say "quell'orologio e venduto". He clearly sized me up. I politely said they should remove it from the display facing Corso Matteotti. The Rome Fiumicino Airport if you are passing through, but that location is obviously picked through frequently.

Daytona or Sky Dweller as a walk in purchase in Europe.....
Why would you even think that might be a possibility?

I‘m on holiday in Italy right now. We‘re in Alassio, it seems every 2nd guy is wearing a rolex here. Didn‘t bother to enter the Ad. A grey has quite a selection in the window. Had to laugh when i saw the pepsi for €19900,-

Yes you’ll easily be able to buy any Rolex model you like in Europe. We’re all a bit behind the curve over here. The Rolex bug hasn’t taken off yet . All display cases are rammed full of stock .

They really struggle to shift white dial steel Daytona’s in “Europe”. You need to negotiate hard

Not too funny since they’re selling in around that price.

Years ago my BLNR was purchased from an AD in Vienna. They actually had two so I talked my non-Rolex appreciating buddy to buy the other one. Worked out beautifully. No VAT made it a better deal than buying in the US.

Being in Europe, every time I go to any AD, I see a plethora of SS models. You see, Europeans don’t have internet and don’t even have money. Rolex core market is the USA (USA! USA!), which is its own bubble and the rest of the world is fully immune to any kind of “global” shortage.

Where do you guys think its more likely to come across one of the more sought after pieces: at an AD in Europe or in South east asia/China?

Which part of Europe? There is F all in the UK. All you can buy from an AD is a diamond or Rolesor DJ, or a ladies watch.

I get the impression that the wait for pretty much anything is longer than the US for example.

My AD told me it was Rolex policy that no SS watches should be sold in the UK. All Rolex hot models which were earmarked for the UK now go to the EU, where I am given to believe that you can by any watch on a walk in.

Since I'm dual nationality, I'll be going on a Rolex spending spree all over the EU next year. When returning to the UK, I need to show my EU Passport or HMRC will confiscate any SS Rolex I am carrying or wearing. HMRC told me this is Rolex policy.

There are over 50 countries in Europe.
Could you narrow it down a bit?

I love the way that people assume that wherever they travel there will be AD's with display cases stuffed full of watches that are unobtainable where they live.

If only we knew where that mystical AD is located?

In Paris, it happened to see Sky Dwellers on display ... all yellow gold ... € 44,000. There has been one at Bucherer for 3 months. This is really the exception, they don't seem to be popular in France.

I'm going to Greece next week. I'm a bit worried I might not have enough room in my suitcase to bring home all my new Rolex purchases.

I’d be surprised if they are much different, but I haven’t been to any of those countries recently due to Covid.

Forget about Switzerland. Submariner is 2 years, GMT 3 and that’s with purchase history.

Also keep in mind people here are very wealthy, so you compete with individuals with vastly more buying power and history than you in general.

Also visited Vienna about 18 months ago, although stock was low there was a TT Skyd (white dial) in the cabinet, not for me but nice to see that sometimes some watches do just appear, congrats on getting in before the BLNR hype went off the scale!

Was really hoping to pick up a SS OP41 in Turquoise/Yellow/Green...guess that's out of the question over Europe.

What a shame, I would have thought, since they closer to factory, it might make a difference - also cities tend to be smaller than say London.

I'm from Vienna, but I work in China. Try competing with newly rich buying power in Shanghai and other Chinese first tier cities. Its nuts!
Hence I would have thought that people in Western Europe might already have had their needs met when it comes to Rolex submariners etc.

Anyone have luck purchasing a watch in Europe?

I think most of the European members on here probably had 'luck' when they bought their watches.

I don't think many of them would travel to the USA looking for a Rolex (when they are made in Europe and that's also where they just happen to live).

Many thanks for the info. I also saw the gold skyd with black and gold dial, oysterflex, several times in London this month.
