The watch that’s caught my attention

Hey everyone! My name is Eric and I’ve been a long time lurker, first time poster here. Never thought I would set out searching for a Panerai, but I don’t think I can fight the urge anymore.

I’ve fallen in love with the good ol’ Pam233. I’ve been calling around trying to locate one (NJ/NYC area) and finally become a Panerai owner.

Anything specific for me to look out for as I hunt for this specific watch? I’m more interested in the Dot Dial version and have read of the notorious power indicator hand causing issues. Is there a way to know if such an issue existed & was corrected etc? Is it worth looking for the am/pm dial instead just to avoid the issue all together?

Insights from you 233 owners are appreciated! Let’s see if I can join the Pam Fam & will keep you updated on my (hopefully quick) new acquisition!

re: 233 dot dial; the earlier (i serial) run did have some issues with the power-reserve "fang" getting stuck in the PR track.

For watches that had that issue (or were factory-serviced subsequently, regardless of whether it was due to the issue), the tell is that the dial is different. It'll retain the "dot dial" indicator vs am/pm, but the track width for the power reserve fang is "wider." you'll notice, as it overshoots the PR markings on each side, by a bit more than how the original dot dials were configured.

It's a great watch; I have had a 233 dot dial (late k serial) for a long time - and never had the stuck fang problem.

Thanks for the response! The 233 I’m looking at has just come back from a service last month, still with the dot dial & it’s an I serial, which like you said seemed to have some issues. So I’m assuming that everything should be fine with the piece after the service! It’s also coming with a service warranty until late 2023 so that makes me very happy. Hopefully the next update will be a photo of the Pam on my wrist!
