Icon3 Worried that the Bottom is going to fall out...

I just tried to buy my Son who Graduated from CSU LB in Southern CA, a ROLEX watch and he said he's happy with his Apple Watch...

I think it's that they don't want the Status Watch and that it isn't cool to flaunt your wealth in our current times...

I can't even convince my wife to wear a watch. Most aren't interested in this strange hobby of ours

People change as they age….

Children like to be different than their parents…..

People that work hard for their money and make great accomplishments like to reward themselves, this will never change…

Rolex will continue to have a good future…..IMO

You have a better chance of being hit by lightening, twice, while standing next to a naked Olivia Munn, drinking a 25 year old Scotch than the Rolex bottom falling out.

My wife did not want a watch.

BUT

She starts to - sometimes - wear my 16610LV (same wrist size). Hmmm. Victory !! Wait.. perhaps not eventually. It is sometimes hard to pick it back.

Make him wear yours sometimes, when you have to do mechanics, or other fallacious reason. It will grow on him.

I think Jean Claude Biver's observation will ultimately play out correct (and is to a certain extent playing out exactly that way already now), that in the early 2000's, wearing a watch as a habit was dying. Doesn't matter what kind of watch, just anykind of watch on the wrist. Then Apple Watch re-established the wrist wear as a habit, and the tiny % of the population trickle down that decides to upgrade in luxury status, albiet downgrade in feature, was made possible because the habit itself of wearing something on the wrist was established by Apple after 2015.

Rolex sold 800K watches last year. Apple sold 30MM. Both companies are happy... and customers of both brands are happy.

I thought the same thing ~2017 and started selling EVERYTHING. Sold my Daytona, GMT Pepsi (16710), AP Royal Oak 15300, SD, etc... All for pretty much what I paid. Whoops...

Now I'm buying again :)

I don’t see the bottom falling out. I graduated college in 2019 and, at least in the US, a good portion of the population would happily wear a Rolex if they had the opportunity to own one. Priorities for everyone are different though. Some kids my age would rather travel or buy luxury leather goods which, dollar for dollar, are cheaper. I don’t think it’s a matter of disinterest but rather priorities

I’m a customer of the brand and no in not happy. Maybe because they don’t allow me to be a customer.

One thing that may happen is that because of scarcity, and impossibility to try them, young people may be wearing Rolex at 37 yo instead of 27 yo.

Maybe automatic watches will go the way of the sundial eventually. Maybe not. Who knows, let’s enjoy it while we can

Which model did you try to get him?

In fairness hes on the west coast where the tech hub culture and at his age, the apple may be preferred. But he will come around.

Worried that the Bottom is going to fall out...

He will change his mind in 20 years if and when he makes a lot of money.

People always do. I spent most of my life thinking people who spent money on luxury were absurd.

At every age group, some are interested and some are not. Overall, enough have been interested to keep the market strong. Market prices will cool, but aren't likely to collapse in the foreseeable future imho

Anecdotal evidence based on one person. I wouldn’t be surprised if affluent individuals are less likely to desire high end mechanical watches, but you literally offered one data point. Bottom won’t fall out by any means, though the market will soften.

I am 25 and I wear my TT DJ every time I am on campus. I am the first one in my family to attend college and have a degree...So I wear that family heirloom with honor.

Though I have also noticed, the watch sets me apart from everyone else. I carry myself very well, and the small details such as a Rolex grabs the attention of my professors I work with. In a world that has an abundance of competition for a career, I firmly believe a Rolex is a focal point in a sea of Apple Watches.

We know at least one 25 y/o will continue to purchase the Rolex brand, I cannot speak for others in my generation.

Thank god I have grown financially, spiritually, and intellectually from my taste of my youth. Generally kids style and taste are horrific so I find that a kid doesn’t like my Rolex a superlative. Rolex ain’t going anywhere nor is it really targeted to youth just starting to find their own adult identity.

Both my sons who live in Southern California have multiple cool watches including Tag Heuers and Rolex. Give your son a few minutes to acclimate lol...Sounds like a good guy, congrats on his graduation...

Some of the richest folks in the world wears an Apple watch. I think it's just a matter of what you want out of a watch.

To be honest, the reason i love mechanical watch and don't like smart watch is the fact that you have to charge it every day. If one day Apple makes a smart watch that can be powered by movement like an automatic, I will probably get one.
