Requested 2 COSC Certificates

Hi everyone.

I have been interested in the COSC Certification process for a while now, and have done a bit of research into it.

Anyway about 2 weeks ago, I decided to contact OMEGA in Switzerland to see if the COSC Certificates for 2 of my Seamasters were available

1. 2014 Seamaster Diver 300M
2. 2017 Seamaster Diver 300M Commanders Watch.

I have to say that dealing with Omega in Switzerland was nothing short of excellent throughout, all done via email.

They requested photos of the 2 International Warranty Cards (which had to be fully completed) and once received they very quickly confirmed that the 2 Certificates were available at the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) in Switzerland.

Once I had paid the fee CHF 100 (approx GBP 80) per Certificate (by Bank Transfer) the Certificates were immediately ordered/requested from the COSC.

Once they were received back at OMEGA Switzerland (Bienne) they were then immediately posted to my home address in the UK, and they arrived today.

Parchment paper within an Omega cardboard folder, and a lovely handwritten note.

The whole process from request to receipt took just under 2 weeks.

Now, I know that arguments about whether these certificates are of any use or value, but they do to me, and form part of the documentation of my watches.

Also, I know that the test results are only a snapshot on the testing days, but i still find them interesting. I also check accuracy of my watches during each rotation.

Anyway, thanks for reading, hopefully some may find it interesting and if people have been thinking about requesting their COSC Certificates then all I would say is that it’s simple and quick to do.

Enjoy your day.

Cheers,

John

This is very neat! I’d do the same if I still had my Planet Ocean. Thank you for sharing insights into the process!

Yes. The certificates are great.. Better in real life than they look on the photo (too much shadow and had to reduce the photo to publish)

Thank you.

I didn’t want just to publish the photo, I wanted to put a bit of detail in on how to do it, incase it can help anyone else thinking of doing it.

I think its been covered before elsewhere, but not recently.

Silly question time! Do you know if these certificates available for all recent Omegas ?

Thanks.

Hi Ratty,

There’s are no silly questions.

From my research and the following answer on the COSC Institute FAQ page …

Q. How long does the COSC retain the results of its measurements ?

A. The results for to a chronometer are kept for 10 years, from the day of the end of the tests. Beyond this period, no more information can be issued about a chronometer.

So I think watches up to 10 years old, a COSC certificate should be available

They must be ordered via the original manufacturer eg OMEGA. Individuals can’t request directly from the COSC Institute.

Hope this helps.

Ohhhh!

I think I got my Apollo/ Soyuz in 2009.

Thanks for your reply.

I might ask for one for my wife’s Snoopy, it’s never been a very accurate time keeper, it might be interesting to see the certificate for it.

Thanks again.

It’s certainly worth asking about the Apollo / Soyuz.

It costs nothing to email them, and they then check if the certificate is available in the COSC Institute, and they tell you available or not available. Only after you request the certificate (if it’s available) are you charged. So it costs nothing to find out. Worth a try ?

They're the best! I ordered one a few months ago for my Planet Ocean Chronograph, couldn't be happier!

Very interesting, I have Metas certificates for my Omega's. It would be nice to add the COSC certificate as well. I love to look at any information when I get a new watch in the fold. I save sales receipts, service documents and any thing else I come across to hand down to the next owner.

Those are nice to have. I have one for my 2254.50. I got it in the mid 2000’s. Back then, Omega would send them to you for free.

Oh how I miss those days. Got one for the 2220.80 I had back in 2007, miss this style of certificate also.
