15500ST Silver from Boutique? (NYC)

Tried on a friend’s 15500 today and oh my… pictures and even seeing it one someone’s wrist is one thing - seeing it on your own is another. The finishing and the dial are in another class than my datejust. Always wanted to add a RO, and this sealed the deal.

I’m based in NYC, and am set on the 15500st in silver. I’ve seen varying experiences here about the prospects and time to get one from a boutique as a first time buyer (from less than a couple months to over a year). Now, I want this watch but am in no rush, and am fine waiting a year or even two.

Question is, how realistic is it to get this as a first time buyer, and what would you say would be the time frame? I’m going to go in the boutique and talk to an SA, but wanted to set my expectations.

Very realistic and possible within a year. Definitely stop by and introduce yourself with the periodic check ins.

Good luck!

In Chicago was basically told to take a hike.
"We get hundreds of calls everyday"
"You probably have to wait 10 years"

Seems like this thread is reflective of what I’ve seen - vastly differing experiences. Guess I just have to go in and see…

I am engaged with a couple AP boutiques across the country. Even a long time collector, my AD lost its AP account when AP started to become boutique only, so here I am starting from scratch. Based on my experience my gut tells me it’s more impossible than possible with the current demands and buyer base to obtain an RO as your first piece. But I agree with others as it’s really about relationship and loyalty to the brand and store. Also not sure if others have heard the same but from what I’ve been told, every piece that gets sold needs to be vetted by managers and owners if 3rd party owned. Days of a sales associate being to sell a piece without another layer of approval are gone I believe.

My advice, get off the forum and go make your trip down to your AP AD. :-)

Good luck!

My advice would be - try and court the boutiques, it may pan out like it has for many on the forum (although, stick to AP owned boutiques, not ADs). In the mean time, if the right deal comes up on the grey market, snatch it up and wear it. Kinda have to play both sides. In any case I feel personally that the market is due for a correction in a few months so if you're patient, perhaps the grey market might serve you well.

Worth a try to the BT or even AP house, a sliver 15500ST should be feasible.

Agreed. I had no prior history and registered my interest at an AP boutique pre-pandemic and got the call last month so it is possible!

Being a long time watch lover I emailed the 57th St AP boutique.
I told them I was interested in the 41mm panda dial royal oak and I’ve always loved the classic design of the royal oak. I said I know how hard they are to get and that I’m in no rush. The boutique called me and I went in for my appointment yesterday.
The sales rep Robert was very nice. We spoke for a while about my first royal oak offshore that was a wedding gift and my lifestyle and interests
and he input all my info into there computer system. I’ve loved watches since I was a teen so it wasn’t hard to speak about this family owed since 1875 watch company that is my favorite brand.
Also I work as a senior manager but I love art and have been doing that since I was a child.
I brought him a card with my instagram account and he loved it and asked to keep it.
He showed me the art he has collected over the years. It’s making a connection with someone. I hope to get the call within a year ☺️ Hope this helps you.

unfortunately they want to weed out the flippers from the collectors…rightfully so being the only sell about 5,000 watches in the USA and 40k world wide.

I suppose I should've prefaced this with: Remember the days when people didn't "invest" in watches like they're daytrading stocks, and so cash was still king.

Ah those were the days. Now at best it’s a bishop or a knight. Downgraded.

At least our savings are not denominated in Argentinean Pesos.

Cash still is King, you just need a lot more of it.
