Seiko, why are you so ....

PERFECT??
Hi all,
During my move to France I realized all my watches were in the safe so decided to buy a "cheap" watch to wear during the adaptation process. Well, once again, Seiko surprised me! I bought these three thinking will destroy them in few weeks but I was really wrong!!! I've used them in really hard conditions (using tools, swimming, traveling, dropping accidentally....)
I bought for 50€ each and their precision is still between +/- 6 sec/day. Used the blue dial for 8 months nearly every day and only able to find some scratches and dents but working like first day!
Proud to say Seiko surprised me once again and re-learnt cheap watches could be amazingly strong and reliable!

Seiko’s are not ‘cheap’ nor ‘cheaply made’, merely inexpensive in comparison to many Swiss made watches.

Hi,
You're right. Sorry to use the term "cheap" but is not used in the bad way. I've tried to say I looked for a not expensive watch thinking will break it sooner or later. I bought Seiko because I know very well they are strong and reliable. I always learn about watchmaking and Seiko tough me many things during my life and always is surprising me how their basic models are so incredible. I own many brands and more expensive but are not always better or more precise.

I still have my diver’s watch from around 1997. It runs well. I have had no occasion to open it. I just acquired a 2017 “Green turtle limited edition”. I have no plans to open it. They’re great watches.

One of the things I've learned during my fling with watches is that a young man could buy three Seiko 5 watches and have enough variety for almost every situation and that could last a lifetime.

A friend of mine who died a while back wore a Seiko 5 that he bought in the early Seventies and it worked as well as it did when new and looked good, too.

He just had it serviced regularly through the years.
