Icon2 Seiko Canon

Just got this co-branded Seiko/Canon 7005-8000 from Tokyo. It was an employee award, given in 1971. It's in great condition for its age, and running well so far. Background pics show the Macau Grand Prix in the 1970s.

Thanks Patrick, yes I should start consolidating soon, I'm running out of space and want a Spring Drive. Vintage Seiko collecting is fun, though

I worked for Canon in New Zealand when they released their new Canola range of calculators in the early 70’s
The sales manager had a Seiko Canon watch.
I can’t remember exactly how it looked but that is a great find Adam.

I was wearing my Roamer Mustang at the time.

My 21st birthday present from mum and dad in 1969.

It’s still going strong.

That Roamer looks great, it's great that you still have it. That's interesting about your time at Canon, and someone from the company owning one back then. This one put up some pretty good numbers on the timegrapher today

I was thinking it would be cool to get an F-1 to go with it...both from 1971. Might be a bit extravagant though

Thanks, the crown is recessed to keep it out of the way, I guess, since the movement is autowind only - an early example of the 7005, from which the 7s26 in your SKX009 is directly descended.

Very nice find Adam. There are so many cool vintage Seiko watches. And the prices are very reasonable. Enjoy it

Interesting how the crown is recessed into the case that acts as a crown guard while also giving a uniform curved case line which looks neat.

Automatic watches were quite a novelty in Japan in the 1960s, and Seiko used to emphasize the fact that watches were automatic by streamlining the crown with the case. These are three of mine from 1962, 65 and 67. The last pic is the first automatic Grand Seiko.

Ahhhhh spring drive. Me want one too. Can’t think of a justification for getting one though...
