Walked into an AD yesterday wearing a Datejust and although the salesman noticed it, I don't think it made any particular difference

Wear an Apple watch and say you are looking for your first Rolex. They might bring you a Sub or Gmt ...Ha getting a Rolex is like asking for a job application now

[QUOTE=Swiss Mad!;11295182]Regardless of what you wear, I think the more important thing to do is make sure they know your wanting the watch to keep for yourself & not to have as an investment or to make a quick buck.

Never mention future values or secondary market prices.

Show them pics on your phone of any other watches you may have in your collection or guide them to your Instagram acc etc if you have one - or even show them all the posts you’ve made on TRF so they know your serious about watches & interested in horology generally.

Make sure they know your a collector/enthusiast not a speculator/investor.

Good luck

Well said.

I like to wear the same watch I am going in to buy. Pass a $50 the ADs way so they leave the stickers on so I will get maximum dollars for my flip.

When I’m just window shopping, I wear my two tones watch.

When I got the call to collect, I won’t wear anything.

Cheers...

In all fairness, I did carefully consider what I was wearing before entering a jeweler on at least one occasion...when I walked in to attempt to get a date with a woman at Tiffany and Co. I can’t remember what I was wearing, but she’s now my ex-wife, so there’s that.

Perhaps considering one’s watch before going to an AD is a thing people do, but it’s just never a thing I have done/would bother doing.

This is a new one to me... buying a watch to improve your chances of being able to buy a different watch...

Buying a Rolex at an AD - What to wear on your wrist?

A buy to buy ???

Now I’ve seen it all.

But seriously OP, don’t buy to impress a SA at a Rolex store. They won’t care.

This is ridiculous. How about just go in, try and find what you like, and buy the damn thing. If they don't have what you like, ask to be on a list or notified if/when one becomes available and/or seek the item elsewhere. Beyond that, why all the games? It's a freakin' watch, for pete's sake.

I’d wear my Garmin Approach S60. Tell them I’m popping in before heading to the Golf Club. Makes you look like a normal person with other interests besides watches.

I have traditionally worn whatever watch I'm wearing that day and I haven't made any plans to wear a particular watch, mainly because most of my visits are spontaneous.

Since my former AD closed, I've only been to the new AD once and that was several years ago.

These days I drop into my used watch salesman's place periodically, just to see what's new. The vintage pieces are more interesting to me these days, as are brands other than Rolex.

I have noticed in the past, though, that when I visited a jewelry/watch store that I don't frequently visit that the salespeople seem less lethargic, if I'm wearing a nice Rolex.

The main thing though that gets salespeople moving is when I've already dropped some bucks there and they know that if I see what I like, I'm going to make a purchase.

Having a little history with a store does make a difference, even if it doesn't move you up the list. Oh, and money talks.

Between those two wear the Rolex. Shows some loyalty to the brand. The AD doesn't care if it isn't a Rolex.

I personally wear the "hard to get" pieces. Those show you are not a flipper.

I wore my seiko and it turned out the person serving me was a seiko fan too. I wouldn't worry too much.

I am not sure that matters to most ADs in this climate. Although I wish it did. I think most ADs just want a long lasting relationship with a client they can unload their watches to.

Most speculators/flippers will be able to purchase more watches than your average collector over time.

I got lucky with one AD in my area. The bigger ADs just want me to buy multiple watches/jewelry before selling me a watch.

I always walk in the AD with nothing on my wrist and tell them that I need a Rolex on it before I leave or else.

Maybe two weeks ago I saw a similar thread. If you're "shopping", I'd probably go with one of my nicest watches. I've talked to a lot of ADs in the last 4 weeks, and I was always wearing my SubC.

Now that I'm going to be picking up two new sport models at an AD next week, I will take my YG Sub, but because I need one more link back into the bracelet haha -- but yeah, nothing to "demonstrate" to the AD. I think it's more important when you're starting to build a relationship, that they know you're serious and not a potential flipper.
