Posting to post.....not for sellling

Wow.....i just had an amazing exchange with this guy who told me that i am merely posting pics of watches hoping that someone will offer me "stupid money" to purchase them. Like somehow i am responsible for values rising.

Listen, don't cry to me when you had a shot at AMZN at 300 2 years ago....and now it is over 1400.....

I think he was irritated at the prices of some models and somehow took it out on me with some off the cuff comment. Crazy. Look, if i post an image, and you come to me to ask about buying it, don't get irritated if it is not for sale or when i tell you my valuation, and you don't agree. Recall, you came to me. I just try to be friendly and tell them what to look for and why i chose the ones that i did. I tell them where i value the watches. I never offer them for sale and even if someone agreed to my value, i doubt I would sell anyway. Crazy......

I remember being a young patawan and sitting down with Mark Lerman a few years ago and he walked me through some of his collection. It left a great impression on me and helped me understand what to look for and why.

When i talk to John Redmond, i listen, i learn, and i absorb. I don't accuse him of overpricing something or trying to rip me off. I may not agree with the price but i take the info offered with a smile. The same is true for Springer. The knowledge is the key. Just absorb and learn. You may have missed the boat on a watch or a model but pay attention and catch the next one.

Crazy........or am i overacting? It is a justification of my choices when someone reaches out to me to inquire. I am always open and conversational. That is how i meet other like minded watchheads......i don't want to get jaded.....but that last guy left a sour taste.

Thanks so much. I never understood why someone would be upset at another person showing pictures of their collection. I truly believe that attitudes like this prevent some of the really nice stuff being shown on this forum.

Wish more people would post pics, even if it's for no particular reason.

Perhaps he’s confused the vintage discussion with the vintage sales? Anyway, keep posting those beautiful pieces and keep helping out newer members with your great knowledge.

So strange - if a TRF member steps out of line in a PM exchange could it be a hijacker?

Not necessarily. I've had oddball PMs that simply came down to differences in language and using an electronic medium that is prone to misunderstanding. Sometimes it is just a goof. A good time to remember not to through the baby out with the bathwater.

I was thinking about a couple of new members who posted “hard to get” or rare Rolexes with “should I sell one of these”...

To me it’s like playing out the bait in front of a school of hungry fish. Then PM’ing the one(s) who express the most interest.

In some cases, “sell it to me” was replied openly.

Agree with the examples you cited - my “steps out of line” direction was thinly veiled selling behavior.
