The end of a 40mm SubC when she houses a 3235 caliber?

Could this be at random or do they typically introduce them in events such a BW?

Given the caliber itself isn't new, I'm curious as to when the sub will case this movement? Will this be the end of the 40mm sub?

I could envision them sliding it in the next time they feel the need to raise prices. Since the current state of Swiss watch sales might not allow them to raise prices just to make more money. Throw in a new movement and people are suddenly getting something for more of their money.

This will be the next big evolution of the Dive watches for Rolex and it makes financial sense for Rolex to standardize their movements cross the line. People will loose their mind if the Sub grows to 41mm when it gets the new movement.

A 41mm SubC with 3235 caliber will be the beginning of the end for the SubC.

The Date-Just-41 is only 39mm with a 3235 movement so just because a Submariner may at some stage in the future have the 3235 movement does not dictate that the Submariner must be a larger size.

However, whether the Submariner does remain a 40mm model is another matter.

Subc won't change its size, they don't need that kind of pain. The SDc outcry they can take.

You have a good point there, but the DJ41 at ~39mm doesn't require the case, crystal, etc... to withstand 300m WR. If the movement itself requires more room, then the case would have to be bigger.

I couldn't see them making the Sub any bigger. They would be cannibalizing the SD which I figure they would want to have its own personality since they just introduced it. Maybe introduce a Sub Date without the cyclops?

Isn't it's the same diameter?

3135 - 28.5mm
3235 - 28.5mm

I was really wondering about this. I would love for my Subs to have a 70 hour power reserve (also the other upgrades are pretty sweet too.) I wonder how long until we see the 3235 in the Sub.

What would they do with the non date version aka the Submariner? Would they just modify the 3235 slightly, or would they create a new movement (sorry that's probably a dumb question?)

Where are you getting the info that it requires more room? Both movements are 28.5mm in diameter, and I'm pretty sure they're both 6mm thick.

Hence why I'm using "if" and ending my sentences with "?" In the OP.

I am only enquiring and you are more knowledgeable than I am with the difference between the 3135 and 3235, it seems. Many thanks.

Cheers :)

With 70 hours power reserve, it will dwell longer in the drawer.

As a fan of the new RSD and a customer that has been begging & wishing for a bigger than 40mm diver, I think the SubC growing would be a HUGE mistake and one I doubt Rolex will do.

I've been saying for years now Rolex missed the boat by not breaking the SD out from the Sub. It makes perfect sense to have the SD fall inbetween the Sub & DSSD and I was convinced they would do it when they brought back the SD4000. When that didn't happen, I just shook my head and walked away from the idea of having another SD.

But now Rolex has done it right in that they have 3 completely unique, yet related divers that offers a size option for everyone. I loved all my Subs, but at 40mm, they just weren't perfect as they appear slightly too small. My DSSD looks better on my wrist, but it's thickness just doesn't make it a perfect "every day" watch. So I've got high hopes the RSD will fill the gap.

If Rolex increased the SubC they would not only once again reduce their selection, but they would also kill off probably the most uniformity accepted "perfect" size of 40mm. While I don't believe there is such a thing as truly perfect size, if I had to pick, I would say 40mm is it. By eliminate that gold-mine size, they would be killing sales...especially considering how 'outside the norm' customers like me now have two larger case size options to choose from.

I wouldn't be surprised if when Rolex bring out a new Sub, that they remove the square style lugs (not complaining about them) and to compensate for this, make the watch around the 41mm size. I Don't think that it would look any bigger in real life and this could be the thinking behind the new RSD being 43mm instead of 42mm.

I think the Sub stays at it is for the time being. Rolex will upgrade the movement at some point as they typically to all the watches that stay around long enough. It will stay 40 mm.

What outcry? :)

I think the only outcry is here on the forums. From what I can tell the general public is generally pleased with this year's launches.

Interesting theory and I could see that eventually happening. But no way the Sub will (nor should) jump to 43mm. That said, I still say we have many, many, many years before another Sub iteration update. The SubC was debuted in 2010 and it's doing just fine...I doubt Rolex is even thinking about updates at this point in time. 'If it ain't broke' kind of thing...

Where does it say the 3235 movement cant fit in the current subC case?
Why on earth would they upsize the sub by 1mm when they just released the larger sea dweller?

And also plenty of celebration on this forum about the RSD. I love how a few people commenting how any new watch is "not their cup of tea" instantly turns into "Nobody" likes it and it's not going to be a hit. As I've said before, for every person that says "Pass" there's also someone saying "Bring it on!"

Agree. If they never do a single thing to ever change the Submariner again, they will still sell every one that rolls out of the factory.
