I'm looking into purchasing my first Panerai and was wondering what's the most iconic watch they make?

The first they ever made back in WWII is the 3646.

A modern homage to that is the 232.

They made some locking crowns post war like the 6152 6154. These are very popular.

A modern homage to that is the 372.

Those are the die hard collector models IMHO.

Else, there are about 50 models I'd love to own. I like mostly simple ones.

I think is 000 (the number is 000 means the first code, it should be iconic)

However 372 is the most wanted watch in Panerai.

Both of these you can't go wrong with

Of course it might be interesting to ask if you have a budget in mind... Panerais start at $4K and go up to... oh, $130K...

I'd say 233, but the dot version, not the new AM PM ones, it's Panerai's first in house movement, 1950 case, domed crystal, 44mm, a great watch, if you would decide for the dot model just don't take the I series, too many problems with the fang, best take the K ones, it's the last ones before the new version, and the one I got.

Otherwise if you want a simpler one, there are so many to choose from, many will say 372, but I can't without the seconds hand

All the base models for me. That's what got me to notice Panerai. I remember walking by a Tourneau window years ago and they had a Panerai display with the 000, 005, and the 111.

I'd say 372 if your wrist can handle it. Otherwise, go with anything that has the crown guard and meets your budget, function, and aesthetic needs. My personal selection is a dot dial 233.
