Opinions: r-gold panerai 515 or 393

Hi all, new to this forum, wanted opinions on these watches. First Panerai, a lot of money, especially the gold ones I'm interested in. Steel looks great but was already have a steel watch. Thinking casual dress in gold now.

I have a decent size wrist, but I think the 42 mm might be more appropriate for me.

What do you all think about the red-gold panerai? overpriced? better watches for the price (~20-25k)? resale (though I'll likely keep this watch long term)?

I like the new Radiomir styles with the thicker lugs. Also the 393 luminor. Both 42 mm.

515, no doubt. Gold is more appropriate on that model IMHO.

when i think of panerai, i don't think of precious metals, but get what YOU like. if gold, consider pre-owned to not take a huge hit.

between the two you posted, 515 for sure. i don't think gold suits the luminor case.

the 515 is 47mm, so, if you think 42mm is more your size, consider the 439 (wire lug rad) or 513 (rad 1940). you could also consider the 231, which is a superb 45mm gold radiomir.

if you feel like breaking the bank, the 398 is quite lovely.

393 , its got the iconic shape ,,, but i hate to think of the resale , id be shopping for a calatrava at that price or a nautilus if chunkys your thing ,,,
but , they are the first pam pics ive seen in a long time that really shout at me , and yep ,,, they do shout loud.

I won't sway your decision towards either model, only to say get the style you like the best, and only once you really figure out which one that is. The high prices of rose gold models makes it all the more critical that you like what you get after the purchase. Choose wisely.

As for Panerai's use of precious metals, I think they make use of them rather well. I enjoy mine very much, and you definitely don't see them on everyone's wrist. Good hunting!

.....moral of the story is, if you want a rose gold panerai, there are many awesome choices.

My opinion is it's overpriced. Even the latest stainless steel models are overpriced, but you probably won't get burned as much on resale. In your suggested price range, I'd rather get a Patek Nautilus, pre-loved gold Rolex GMT or Sub, or nice vintage Rolex (DRSD). I wouldn't recommend a Panerai in that range. As always, the most important thing is that you get what you want.

I got rid of my 183 because the wire lugs bugged the hell out of me, despite loving the case shape and crown. I can see myself getting a 1940 case model someday though.
