Add another RO 15400 Black or get Nautilus White

Hi Guys, recently I picked up the AP ROO Diver and I love this thing, so much so that Im wearing it regularly.

However this has somehow ignited my interest in Genta sports watch. I used to have a 5711 Blue Nautilus but for some reason the dial just felt abit dated on my wrist and i never bonded with it so i sold it.

I like the look and heft of the 15400 which I tried on, and was offered a white dial 5711 at the same time which i also thought looked good. Which one would you go for? Looking at values tho, it seems that at least in the UK its:

5711, retail £18,030.00 and £14,300 for the AP RO

£3730.00 difference

Now if you factor in discounts, its like

£18,030 for Patek (no discount on patek ofcourse), and £10,500~ for AP, meaning differential is £7530.....

Which one would you get and why!?

Does the white nautilus interact as much with the light than a black/blue dial of the PP ?
Also does the black 15400 dial plays more with light than a PP white ?
I think the loss on a AP is compensated by the discount price one can have on compared to a PP on which there will be no discount but then will loose very little....

But a Patek is a Patek, so it's really a hard call.

I am myself in the process of considering a 15400 black dial vs 15710 black and a PP Nautilus 5711 black/blue dial and honestly, I am a little lost as to which one is the right choice for me.

Looking forward to see what others have to say!

As I'm also looking to add a RO I would have to go with the 15400 as it has a different presence to the diver.

If you've already not bonded with a PP why go back?

Happy decision making.

I feel the same about the grey-blue Genta 5711, but the 15400 blue is more vibrant and dynamic. I like the 5711 white but that's a £14K watch to my eye, but still for the same price I'd go for the blue 400.

Interesting compare as I don;t recall these two head to head before. Anyways, I really like the white 5711 and if I was to get a 15400 it would be blue, hands down...so that would make my decision easy.

I get there's a big price diff, but if you really love the watch and you'll be keeping it, the price shouldn't matter that much

Good lucl in the choice

I'd get the AP. If I were getting a steel nautilus I'd only get the new twin time or the moon phase one. Not the one with a moon phase and power reserve. The one that was just the moon phase and the calendar. But I like that one on a strap :).

I'd get the 15400 in black or the 15202 50th anniversary if you like the blue. I don't like the blue so 15400 in black for me.

Try the boutique 15400 in person before you decide....IMHO the AP bracelet alone puts this piece over the PP - if you want a more classic Genta go for the 15202. Personally I went for the 15400 boutique as it's an updated version of the classic.

No wrong choice for sure, only what best suits your taste and wrist!

I would normally lean Patek, especially for brand diversity, but I don't really like the 5711 in white, so I'll go with the 15400 (all colors are nice).

Another option might be the PP 5167, which gets you a PP wrapped up in an understated, but modern sportswatch. Only Gentra inspired, and certainly not the heft of the AP, so it may not fit your needs.

Good luck.

Thank you guys. Unfortunately the UK has no boutique, yes hard to believe and therefore I am unable to see the Blue 15400. Also the Blue 15400 will be somewhat more expensive. I get that the white is probably not as popular and maybe not worth the premium....hmmm The poll stands at 6 -6 haha....

I felt the same way you did about the blue dial 5711. But I voted white dial 5711 in a kind of split decision because to my eye the 15400 at 41mm is just not right (for me) and I very much like the look of the white dial 5711. However I think the RO bracelet and clasp > Nautilus bracelet and clasp.

Beautiful watch but not for me. It just doesnt pop on my wrist. I flipped it twice as i thought i made a mistake the first time but alas, its a watch i feel i SHOULD like because everyone loves it and its so desireable but its a watch i just find average in all honesty and i dont mean to offend anyone.

My vote also goes to the black 15400, which is what I own. I totally agree with what you said above.

This is why I said for the nautilus it should be the moonphase or twin time.

The only basic nautilus I would get is the rose gold one.

You get more "horology" for the money with the 15400, I really really love mine. But, Patek is Patek and you can't go wrong with any nautilus.

Good point. Patek will always have that high ground. Technically i find the 324 cal superior and the water resistance is superior on the nautilus as well. But the AP just looks BAS A**

This is an interesting poll. My dream watch for the last several years has been a white 5711. The blue 5711 annoys me that the date wheel doesn't match (same can be said for black or blue 15300's). So I went through the other options, 15202 (too thin/flimsy for me), 5167 on rubber (fantastic and light watch but almost $20k for a rubber strap watch was too much for me). The blue 15400 gets a lot of love but I couldn't source one to look at and don't like paying full retail. So, I got a black 15400 from David SW for a great discount and price/discount is aalways a factor. I also thought the silver 15400 looked too big but the black dial made it look smaller. I recently (finally) tried on a blue 5711 and thoughtit looked too small. So now I still want a white 5711 since the white dial will make it look bigger and I like the color coordinated date wheel. But, given the cost for a white 5711, I need to save up for awhile and probably need to make that my last watch to maintain a happy marriage. So my vote is 15400 black, but I still yearn for a white 5711.

Patek, the 15400 is the only RO I dislike. I think the proportions are all wrong. Super-small date window makes the watch look like it had the wrong movement inside.

Hahaha thanks for your thoughts. Very crucial that you maintain your marraige :)

Im still on the fence, financially I could technically keep both but from a collection standpoint, i just dun see the need for so many bracelet watches and feel the 15400 and the 5711 are of the same "kind" and one wont get worn as much as the other.

Curveball. How about a 15202 Jumbo instead? Have you seen / tried one on? Many AP collectors tends to eventually upgrade from 15400 to 15202, myself included. Might as well go straight there.

For me I'm going to AP, I don't like nautilus line expect some of them like a moon phase and travel time chrono, 5711 white and blue are so simple, expensive, small for me and not even attractive.

Hi, thanks for your suggestion. I have tried the 15202 before, whilst I like it, there are a few drawbacks that are deal breakers for me:

1) No seconds hand.
2) The JLC movement which is delicate and somewhat more fragile than the AP 3120.
3) Price and general "delicateness"

I dont disagree for a minute that this is THE original authentic AP!!

How is the 15202 delicate? Is the 40th anniversary as delicate? I thought the only issue was like the date wheel or something like that breaking.
