New sd or Deepsea
I know this is a bit of a hypothetical but if you wanted a new sd and couldnt get a used 4K would you prefer the new sd or the deepsea? I wonder what the new sd does to deepsea sales

Shouldn't affect sales much, completely different watches. New SD has way less technology than the deep sea. Deep sea is available with the graduated blue-black dial, domed crystal, and titanium caseback. New sd has bigger dial, cyclops, and red print. Which one do you prefer? Get that.

I'd get the RSD over the DSSD, not sure over D-Blue yet.

I went with a D-Blue DSSD for various reasons. But, in the end, it was because it spoke to me emotionally more than the others... and still more so than the SD50th.

I personally didn't care what was coming out for the new SD, I had wanted the D-blue DSSD since I first saw it and was able to finally get one 2 weeks ago. I had no interest in a 4k or whatever was coming out. Buy what YOU like the best.

I have to say, though, the D-Blue DSSD has quite an amazing presence. It truly does. |

Depends on how it looks at you really. Submariner and Seadweller 4000 looks very small on me. Though I really like their lighter weight, Deepsea looks much better on me.
I suggest pick what looks good on you. You'll get used to the weight and other stuff much sooner than you think |

For me it was the same thing, when D-Blue was announced and I saw it for the first time I knew I had to have it, it's all about the emotions in the end. I'm sure some people had the same reaction when new SD was released this week. I still prefer D-Blue

The DSSD is still the Alpha Rolex diving watch
The new Sea Dweller will probably take more sales from the Sub than Deep Sea due to its more iconic style... cyclops, red writing and not as bulky to wear Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk |

I agree. Having the the DSSD Blue, the new SD43 didn't do a lot emotionally for me. If it hit the power ball, I'd prob add it.

I like the new SD and if I had a wrist that could pull it off I would be interested. The DSSD is too thick for my tastes

In all honesty, and if I were in the market today for my first Rolex I would very seriously consider the new SD43. However, after trying it on I would have serious doubts about it due to the top heavy nature of it and how it sits perched up high on my wrist. All the variations of the SD fit me the same due to the protruding nature of the Case-back. Assuming there was a DSSD in stock that I could try on at the same time. I am confident I would have chosen it over the SD43 because the fit on my wrist is better due to the design of the Case-back. Now, if the SD43 had the same Case-back as the DSSD then it would've clearly been the one I walked out with. Without a doubt The proportions of the watch are much, much more pleasing to me and everything I always wanted In all honesty I think the size would be a little better for me as well. A D-blue in stock would've made my decision absolutely impossible as I could easily see myself stumping up the extra coin for it simply because of its sheer beauty. Regarding sales. I think the new SD43 as it stands will kill off the DSSD in time(assuming Rolex discontinue the D-blue). |

It seems everybody is talking about the comparison of the thickness of the two watches and how the DSSD is too high. In reality and in overall terms there's not that much between them. Maybe about 2mm at tops. I know the DSSD Mid-case certainly is thicker and is visually apparent. It ultimately comes down to how the watch actually wears on ones wrist. |

I think much would depend on the heft and weight of the new SD.
The DSSD in the past was criticised for being too thick and bulky so it could be that the SD50 might appeal to that segment of the market that wanted a bigger Rolex dive watch than the traditional 40mm but couldn't deal with the size and weight of the Deepsea. |

Yes it's certainly compelling.
The extra size is important along with the Cyclops(which is a useful addition. In terms of styling they really nailed the proportions as well. It's truly something to behold IMO. I hope it goes well for Rolex. Rolex is back, now that they're not committed to pursuing the fat lady case lugs style(epic fail) |

The DSSD was a confronting jump up in size over a Sub but it needs to seen as a whole and understood for it's engineering package. IMO, the only detracting thing about the DSSD was the proportions of the Bracelet as it runs up to the case. It looked a fraction too narrow against the case size, but I think it was a compromise Rolex had to make due to the original design brief which was to make it a wearable proposition. The narrower Bracelet would've contributed to a reduced the overall weight of the watch. Not to mention the Titanium Case-back. Personally if the DSSD had a bracelet the same proportions as the one fitted to the SD43, I wouldn't have cared less as it would've been more pleasing to the eye overall. Then again, to be fair the DSSD bracelet only looks too narrow from some angles and certainly not a problem if I ignore it and just enjoy the watch as it is |

Agree too. I think there are many SUB owners who bought a SUB even if its a bit small on them because the DSSD is just too big and bulky for their wrist. If the SD43 is available about a year ago when I bought my DSSD, I'll be all over it. The cyclops and thinner size are very useful especially on a long-sleeved shirt.
By the way, anyone know how thinner the SD43 is compared to the DSSD? |
