If only one AP in a 5 watch collection...

Which single modern AP would you pick to represent AP in small sized 5 piece collection?

Especially curious if had to pick between 15202 Jumbo, 15407 Skeleton, or 26574ST Perpetual Calendar

Let's assume....
-No worries about re-sale value or investment, only about the limited one slot in the collection
-No ceramic models since those only exist in the land of unicorns
-Let's assume the Patek spot in the collection is going to be taken up by something like a 5164 hence throwing a PC complication into the mix.

15407 for the movement beauty and 26574 for the complication.

Well of course! But which one would you prioritize if limited to only one to showcase in the royal oak format?

What else in the collection? That should determine if you should add higher complications or focus on importance of history or a so damn cool skeletonized watch

I would go for the blue dial perpetual. You’ll get a lot of AP DNA combined in one watch:

* Royal Oak case
* Blue tapisserie dial
* Great complication

So I guess it boils does to does complication or skeleton represent the modern AP the best?

I always loved the epic JorgeCCW thread of his rotating collection and having a collection philosophy. My thoughts are:
1. My Me Watch: Daytona
2. Beater Watch: Rolex GMT
3. Power Rose Gold Watch - Undetermined yet, but leaning towards 5164R
4. Royal Oak AP: ????
5. Still Open, maybe super complication HH

For a RO I'd go for a 202 or maybe an original 5402.

Function wise you have chrono and 2 dual time. Metal you’re covered with rose gold and steel. History Daytona is full of it. I would say go for 15407 given that number 5 is dressy high complication piece. Absolutely Jorge is inspiring, ill follow suit once I know what I like

I love the 15202 BUT the 26574 is much more special in my eyes. I'm a sucker for the perp. complication.

@guanxi .... that is a very, very persuasive and compelling argument! Out of curiosity, how do you like the AP PC vs the 5164 you just got?

@ap1 Does that mean between the choice of 'skeletonization' vs 'high complication' to showcase AP as a brand in a collection you think skeleton is the more important side AP to highlight?

Indeed! 2 different animals...

What pushed me towards the AP was the complication first and the design second. a PC from a holy trinity manufacturer + iconic design = perfect storm! Very complex yet sporty look, not the most comfortable bracelet I have to admit (sharp edges and the occasional hair pulling) but beautiful watch, catches the light, quite thin although a tiny bit too wide (RO look and feel bigger) the dial and the finishing all around are just stunning, almost has this jewelry feel.

The 5164 is a real practical watch especially since I work between different time zones and I “normally” travel a lot, super legible, love the design, the details, the versatility, the elegance (I wear a suit almost everyday and it just works so well), the confort is unequaled (don’t feel the watch on my wrist), I sleep with my watches and the lume on the 5164 looks great and is very generous. This could well be the perfect daily driver.

Again they both have a well deserved First class seat on board my little collection, the Rolexes sit in Business class! Damn it, just made myself miss flying again...

Cheers!

Its not possible to have only one AP:) depending on your wrist size maybe but Jumbo would be my first choice. You get piece of history and versatile watch to add on your sport models
