Winter tyres - do you switch?

Put mine on two weeks ago.

Just 4 Celsius out this morning, so glad to have them on. Plus they are on a much more aesthetically pleasing set of rims to my eyes.

Noticeable difference in traction when cold and although it’s less of an issue here than Germany, much much improved snow driving ability.

Any of you guys also switch out for winter ?

The adage used to be Oktober bis Ostern (Easter) for when to have them on.

All vehicles every year. Such a piece of mind to be able to stop faster and turn where I want to, let alone going up icy hills. We had a relatively rare ice storm last year and cars were just piled up at the bottom of every grade. I was able to meander around everyone at low speed to get to work. They waited for the temperature to warm up....

Some of our cars run all seasons. I don’t switch. On my S4 I run summer tires for three seasons and Blizzaks for winter.

You bet I do ...

Canadian winters in our parts throw everything at you from snow, drizzle, freezing rain, and temperature extremes from above zero C to negative 30C. I couldn’t keep my car between the lines without them

It really is amazing the difference they make.

I couldn’t not switch now after using them for a few years

Is it a legal, or quasi-legal requirement over there ? It was back in Germany. Not in the UK (slightly warmer climate) but am sticking with them by choice and safety

Good question. It goes by province in Canada. I know in the province of Quebec they are mandatory. Here in Ontario they are not but insurance rates are lower if you use them

Even without snow they will be performing better in the colder months for braking distance etc. so very much worth it

I always changed to winter/snow tires when I lived in the Northeast. The traction is far superior to any A/S tire.

I do, and I'll be installing mine at home in a week or so. Might even do it over the weekend.

Used to many years ago, now just run Nokian all-weathers

Nokian WR G3 (now G4) -- have them on both my sport sedan and the SUV version on my SUV. They wear a little quickly, but great tires

On cars absolutely. My current truck has snow rated Goodyear Duratracs that I run all year round.

Used when I lived in Chicago, but not anymore since moving to Atlanta in the Southeast. For Winter tires, I used Continental DWS and was reasonably impressed.

Not in Seattle, lots of rain, ice and snow once every 2 or 3 years. When that happens no tires work. Lots of steep hills and almost no snow plows.

Got the snow tires on now! We drive to the snow from our comfy, sunny, 80F weather. I got over getting out on the cold, wet roadside to put chains on a long time ago. We also pack snow socks for when chains are required. 20201104_092107.jpg

For sure, just did my wifes this week and also my daily was done this morning. As well, our truck fleet also gets done. Its very important where I am....but the next two weeks its 15c and sunny. Abnormally warm! Taking advantage to get a few final drives of the toy cars.

Same here. Leave them on all year. Highly rated for winter weather.

My BMW is my year round daily and it wears all season continentals and my weekend Corvette wears summer high perf Pole Positions. I’ll still take it out on dry days in the winter but I’m much more careful with the throttle.

After my first winter in MN on all seasons, I changed to having a dedicated winter setup and/or a winter car. Buddy of mine has a LX470 with 150k on the clock and remote start / snow tires for his winter car - it's an absolute beast.

Not an issue now as CA based, but we're moving to IL soon so I'll likely be back to having a set of winter tires.

All my vehicles except the 3 season toy.

For me, a set of winter rims and tires is cheap insurance. Much cheaper than a fender bender.

Be careful driving in winter conditions on "all season" tires. They don't perform well in cold & snow. If you want to leave one tire on all year round look for "all weather" tires. Big difference in winter driving conditions.

No I run Continental DWS all year long. If its really bad no ones going anywhere anyways till they start plowing.

Man, I'm so glad I don't have to deal with that stuff anymore.

Was in Calgary for a funeral last February and all was fine for the first couple of days, then it snowed overnight. I drove in that stuff for 17 years but now I was driving like a rookie from.......well.....California. Embarrassed myself.

But slid into the airport an hour later just happy to be there.

Damn, I used to drive 80 miles an hour in the winter, with my arm out the window and my hair flying back. Now I looked like a little old lady going to church on Sunday.

I'm ashamed.
