First Visit to Omega Land
Hi all,
Those who know me know I am Rolex mad! Well since having my little boy, I had to re-distribute my priorities, and decided to downgrade to an Omega. Hopefully I will return to Rolex one day. When looking to downgrade I looked at Breitling Super Ocean, the Omega SMPc and the Omega Planet Ocean. First I tried on the Breitling Super Ocean and I really liked it. I was pretty sure about it but tried on the Omega watches just to be sure. The SMP was nice, but the Planet Ocean really blew me away. I tried on the black PO with orange numbers, and the orange bezel one. The orange just had that special something that I used to love about my Green LV Sub. The AD had the new 8500 model or the older 2500d model. On trying them both on, I actually preferred how the 2500 sat on my wrist. The fact it was also around 25% cheaper sealed the deal. After a bit of haggling, plus 36 month 0% thrown in, I was quite happy. A Few months into ownership and I absolutely love my PO. The 45.5m size is big and I think looks superb. However it is still able to slide under a shirt cuff nicely. The dial looks superb and is really easy to read. The lume is fantastic, and it is sitting at around +4 seconds per day at the moment which I can live with. The bezel in orange I think looks amazing, and really pops out. The AR coating on both sides of the crystal almost makes the crystal disappear. My only negative would be the bracelet which has a lack of adjustment, especially when my last watch was the new Sub 116610 with the glideclasp. You cannot even make micro adjustments. Basically it is removal of links or half links. As a result mine sits slightly loose in cool weather, but this suits me when it gets warmer so it doesnt dig in too much. All things considered I am delighted with my PO, I think it was an absolute bargain, and whilst its not a Rolex, I am really delighted with it....if anyone is considering an Orange PO and isnt sure.......GO FOR IT!!! |

Congratulations and welcome to Omegamania!
My cal 2500 LE had the 8500 cost but the slender case is so much more comfortable. |

Welcome Nairn - I'm thinking of buying a SubC Date but don't see it as an upgrade - more like 'Diff'rent Strokes'.

Congrats! not a downgrade. I've had 2 PO and a Schumacher Speedy and loved them all. Looking to pick up a birth year speedy and a AT GMT Chrono at some point.

A great and unmistakable watch you have there. I love orange accent, open 6 & 9 and the wedge shaped baton markers. Some of these features harking back to the vintage 300m models.
You have not down graded mate. All the best |

I used to be a omega speedy pro only guy. But added the James Bond blue wave dial, a PO2500 42mm black and just today a SMP300 ref 2255.8000.
I am very impressed with the Seamaster and PO range and u got a winner yourself! I am sure u be pleased! Congrats! |

If by downgrade you mean it's less expensive then fine, but in terms of the watch and movement there's no downgrade there.

Congrats on the PO. Love the orange bezel. The new 8500 is an amazing new caliber but the 2500 is tried and true. My SMP has the 2500 and has been an excellent watch.

I think he meant downgrade in regards to price or cost...as the post was about the birth of child and "priorities"....
