Realistic or a Pipe Dream?
I fell in love with two watch brands. Omega and Panerai. I am 27 years old and not wealthy (yet) or from wealth.
Is it realistic for me to buy an Omega movement and other parts then take it to a watch repair store and have them assemble it? Or is this pretty much impossible? Go easy on me. I'm just a man who loves high quality watches but can't afford them yet. |

Welcome to TRF. I am sure it makes good sense to buy a vintage watch from trusted sellers here on TRF. Good luck!

Start saving little by little. When you have enough cash you get yourself a nice Omega Speedmaster or Planet Ocean 2500 IMO. |

save money, and buy a used gently preowned omega.
you can find a 2500 movement PO for as little as 2500$ that may sound a lot but if you save 250$/month you can get one pretty soon. |

Buy the best example you can afford. Better to wait and buy one in good working order.

Or try vintage.
You can be a nice Seamaster 30 cal 286 for around 350 USD Lots of other vintage Omegas with superb movements that wont break the bank. Just bone up on the models first and kinda crawl before you walk :) Cheers Desmond

Buy used. My first "nice" watch was used and I loved it. As I got older and had more discretionary funds I started buying new. I've been collecting watches for 15 years and only recently completed my collection. It takes time but you'll get there.

In all honesty, it would be cheaper (and significantly easier) just to buy one ready made

Assembling them from parts will cost you many times more than buying one complete.
It's great you appreciate nice watches, just save till you can afford one. But remember, a high grade watch is a luxury, not an essential, so make sure its a discretionary purchase rather than a 'must-have' ... |
