Incoming SD43 !!!
As I have discussed in a few other posts I searched for over year for a Rolex to hand down to my son after my Datejust I had for 13 years was stolen (GMT, SUB or SD43) at ADs everywhere to no avail. I ended up pulling the trigger in January on a two month old SUB basically new with everything I wanted (box papers, card, some stickers etc) except my sons name on the card. I kept seeing prices rise and I got it for the equivalent of MSRP plus tax so I was happy as I had given up hope on getting one from an AD with his name on the card as I have zero relationships with any ADs and figured it was useless.
Maybe not! Got a call today from an AD I visited in Wisconsin when I was there on a business trip that he had a Sea-dweller come in and wandered if I was interested. I said sea dweller? Which one? Nervously as I had found and tried on a deep sea at another AD that I almost bought out of desperation but decided it wasn’t for me. He said the anniversary model with red lettering and I immediately said I will take it!! I have never been in the store before but talked to the salesman for a while about watches and my quest and my story. He told me how few SS models they received and how long the list was. He took my name and number anyway and said he would call if he got anything I may be interested in to which I gave a less than zero chance of getting a call lol. Funny thing is that same night is when I bought the SUB as I had given up. Got it for MSRP no tax and he is covering shipping will be here Friday since they have a huge snowstorm there and he can’t get it out til tomorrow. My sons name on the card dated exactly two months to the day before his second birthday! Of course when I told my wife ecstatically and showed her the picture she said it looks just like your other one to which I pointed out the differences lol. Now I’ve just got to decide if I am keeping the sub (May put it on the Everest rubber strap I bought to change the look some) as well or try to sell it and maybe get a GMT. But for sure I am a life long customer of the AD and will visit every time I’m in town. Anyway happy Tuesday to all and sometimes you get lucky at the ADs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Congrats. A colleague of mine wears the SD43. We are professional divers, and every time we get in the water...man I wish it was mine!

Thank you all very much. I am super excited as you can tell (much more than with the sub for obvious reasons) and will definitely post pics as soon as it arrives.
Now the hardest part is deciding whether to keep or let go of the sub for a GMT...decisions decisions What would you guys do? Are they too similar? I kinda want to keep it as part of the story to tell my son why he has two watches or more by then I’m sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Congratulations! Such an awesome watch.
Regarding your follow up question. I think your answers will vary a lot. I personally would swap out the Sub for a GMT but that's because I generally favor the GMTs over the Subs to begin with. You have one hell of a diver watch now. Why not diversify the collection a bit by adding a GMT in exchange for the Sub? I also completely understand the reluctance to do so due to any sentimental attachment you have with your Sub. |

Thank you for sharing that great story with us! There are really good ADs around, sometimes just a matter of finding them. Better even now that your son's name is on the card. MSRP and no tax! Great situation to be in.
Congratulations! Cheers, Carl

I think you should wear both and then decide. The SD43 is a bigger watch and wears bigger. I have 8.25” wrists and the SD43 is my daily. I had a Sub no date but after getting the SD43, it got much less wrist time. It is a great watch! Good problem to have. Enjoy.

Congrats and welcome to the SD43 club. Mine is currently getting the Rubber B treatment for Spring / Summer. Exactly this... My AD is integrating the Rolex Buckle into the band. Will post some pics up when I get it back.

Congrats and enjoy! After taking some time to whittle down to two watches but if I ever decide to venture back into more than that, the SD43 will be the one I purchase. Wear it in good health!

Congrats - you should easily be able to sell the sub if you decide to. What model sub if I may ask?

Incoming SD43 !!!
Thanks again all!! Gonna be a long few days wait for sure. Feel like a kid at Christmas lol.
I could also just put the sub in the safe to wear occasionally and store it and have a nice vintage sub to wear many years from now for the story together when I give the SD to my son but I want the SD to be the one my son remembers on my wrist most of the time to make memories together. I’ll most likely end up with a Pespi of some vintage eventually as well since that’s the one that started my Rolex wants when I was a kid (damn Magnum PI) is still on my want list. He’ll get them all eventually of course but the SD is special. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact I’ve spent over $20k on watches in the past month as well lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
