Would you rather have a 5512 or 5513?
Would you rather have a, say, 7.5/10 5512 or a 8/10 5513? Someone's going to ask for my purpose.
I'd like to daily wear it, but also take into consideration of future appreciation of course. Thoughts? |

I’d rather have a 9.5 - 10 / 10 of whatever I could find.
Buy quality. Wear it and enjoy it. Live for today, there might not be a tomorrow. |

Tough to know how your 10 point rating scale lines up with mine. Both are very cool pieces, but I personally think the 5512 has the edge. Let’s bring this out of the abstract with some photos.
Also, post a photo of your S2000. I enjoyed owning an AP1 for about 60 days before I totaled it. Last edited by Grandcrew; 14 February 2019 at 01:09 PM.. Reason: Added more words |

What year is each watch and the condition of dials, hands and movements? Price of each? I'd personally have to factor far more things than 7.5 vs 8.
Future value be damned. Buy it to wear and wear the hell out of it. |

Well, I guess I was just trying to make it rhetorical. It doesn't matter what the scale is...just assume both are "valued" roughly the same in today's market. the 5513 is in better condition by a smidge than the 5512. Thoughts? |

I say get both. I’d hate to have to choose. This thread needs some pics so Here are my two. Both are in excellent vintage condition and get worn in rotation periodically.
The 5512 is from 1972 and had an OEM T-19 acrylic dome installed last month for quite an aesthetic upgrade over the previous service crystal. Unpolished and all original Serif Matte Dial variant. The 5513 is an MK1 Maxi (1978) Matte Dial that I just had LAWW polish to bring back the chamfers and install an OEM T-39 superdome. The distressed leather strap is a nice change from the Oyster Bracelet on the 5512. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What additional premium would you add for box and full service records on a 5512?

Highly subjective...”can’t wear the box and papers”. Big difference between original pinched warranty papers and “service records”. By “box” do you mean inner and outer? Either way I’d say the watch’s overall condition is the more important valuation factor rather than a box and service records. Just my .02 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I love a good maxi matte dial 5513. That's where I'd put my money.

Condition is THE most important factor.
That said, the 5512 is a more special reference. Chronometer-rated, not as many made, tougher to find, etc ... Oh, and Steve McQueen wore one, if that matters! |

A nice, clean Submariner 5512 matte dial from the 1970s would be nice but there aren't an abundance of them out there for sale. The Submariner 5513 is also a very fine watch.
