Photo Heavy- AD 5 Watch PM Love Fest - Monday is decision day.
So for those who read my thread last week they will know that I was in a dilemma of which Daytona Oyster-Flex to buy. I genuinely liked them all but eventually after much deliberation plumped for the WG.
OP1.jpg The one my AD offered me was actually picked up, 2 weeks late by the original guy who ordered it, during the time that I was mulling it over; but no worries, he said he could get me one within a week. Great I think. So moving the story on, I popped into my AD last night (Thu evening) to check on progress and he says no sweat it will be here Monday. However! He says since I'm spending around 100,000 Saudi Riyals, USD $ 26,500, GBP 20,700 then surely I should see what else is available for that price. I said sure, so we sat down with a coffee and had an hours PM love fest with some serious grail watches. Here are my choices below, and wow I genuinely do love them all. All these below PM watches are being offered to me with substantial discount, bar one. I'd be interested to know which one you'd plump for in a similar position? Plus what you think of the prices for BNIB from AD? Notwithstanding I'll just go for the one that sings to me on Monday evening. I just wanted to share the scenario and the great hour that I had last night. Option 1, GMT full Gold, USD $ 28, 835, GBP 22, 383, a beauty! OP 3.jpg Option 2, WG Gold Submariner 116619, a real beauty and photos really do not do it justice, heavy watch but classy and under the radar. USD $29,675, GBP 23,019, but with the promise of further discount if I chose this watch. OP4.jpg OP 5.jpg Option 3, YG Daytona 116508, Absolutely stunning, but if I am honest probably just out of reach pricewise, with a price of USD $32,345, GBP 25,099. this was the only watch offered with zero discount. OP6.jpg op8.jpg Option 4, YG Day Date 40mm, lovely watch but I found it slightly retro and underwhelming in this company, the price - USD $30,210, GBP 23,445. Don't be fooled by the apparent bent minute hand, its just the angle and the watch lense. OP9.jpg Finally, and thanks for reading this far. My original choice and still in with a big shout; the Daytona WG 116509LN on Oyster-Flex. USD 24,943,GBP 19,361. A great price imo and one of the nicest modern Rolexes available. OP 10.jpg Hope you enjoyed the thread. |

I don’t think you could go wrong with either one of those references as they’re all pretty amazing in their own way. Out of the bunch I’d likely go for the YG Daytona with green dial since you had your heart set on a Daytona to begin with.

I'd go with the yellow gold GMT-Master II. If I am going to spend that kind of money on precious metal, I'd have to go yellow gold. I know it is not as low key as that Submariner Date in white gold (which is my second favorite option), but the GMT looks so good in yellow. Daytonas aren't my thing and while I appreciate how beautiful those options are, I think a Submariner Date in white gold or GMT-Master II in yellow gold with the green dial are some of the best executed precious metal sport watches Rolex makes.

The YG Daytona with green dial would be my personal choice. If that higher price is a dealbreaker, then I'd go to my second choice among your options and go with that YG GMT...also green dial.
I am obviously a fan of Rolex YG and green. |

Well, if I was in your pants so to speak and given what I have now - I would probably end up getting the Smurf.
Sounds kind of stupid to say it, but I need blue colour in the collection (like saying that the next car has to be red, a lady-ish criteria for decision making, and I’m not taking anything away from female decision making :)). Then again, for some reason I’ve never been interested in Daytona - I guess I would need new reading glasses if I had one - and they seem to be in majority from which to choose from. But of course this is very much each their own thing.

I've got a big soft spot for the Smurf. Hell of a line up you got your hands on there.

1) YG GMT money dial
2) Daytona green dial 3) Smurf 4) Daytona oysterflex 5) Day-date champage dial (if rose gold olive dial then this would be number 1!) |

All fantastic options. Can't go wrong with any of them - they are all very different watches.
I prefer the RG CHNR GMT over the YG model, so that would be out for me personally (although the flat green dial on that model is stunning). I would personally be leaning towards the WG Daytona on OF or the Smurf. Do keep us posted. Would love to know what you decide on! |

WG Daytona gets my vote. Keeps the watch a sports watch but has the emphasis of it being a PM piece while keeping it subtle.

WG daytona.
Tried it on before and it was stunning and that’s from someone who doesn’t like Daytona’s. YG really isn’t my thing, this is another decision breaker for me. |
