Please help on calibre 215 PS
Hi all, you may have seen my 5116G incoming. This was preowned and I have concerns with the movement. Please see picture, I noticed some areas at the bottom that almost look empty/green or unfinished and I believe this is the 215 PS calibre. Should I be concerned?
I need to take it to Patek post lockdown in any case to see if it needs service as it must be at least 9 years old. The watch is running very accurately and strong. Many thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Found this pic on the web which seems to indicate the same gaps.

Looks normal, yet at 9 years old you might want to consider servicing it. It's a current movement, so servicing should only take about three months or so.

Thank you Steven - I am not sure of its service history but I think it would be a good idea and then will be good for a good few years.

3 months to service Patek’s most basic and ubiquitous movement. Makes one wonder if instead of actually disassembling and servicing the 215, would it not be more cost effective simply to replace it? I suggest this somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but 3 months is hardly something to celebrate. |

If it is keeping good time I would just keep wearing it.
Service it when it breaks.

Also a good point. I had my breitling for 12 years and it was working fine, took it to service at Breitling and it broke 4 months later! The crown completely came out - waiting for post lockdown to take it back and have dropped them a note, not pleased!

Hey Anuj, If it ain’t broke don’t fix it! As long as it’s keeping good time there is absolutely no reason to send in for service. Imo & experience, it will run fine for years from now and when it starts acting naughty PP will replace any worn parts as part of service. Just enjoy your fine timepiece. :-)))

Thanks all. Unfortunately I have just noticed a far bigger issue that the seller did not share- seems like an honest chap and simply did not spot it. He has agreed to refund me a small amount.
It appears there is a gap between the bottom bezel and case as the case seems to have been over polished? As this is white gold, can this be repaired? What is this likely to cost by Patek? Should I be worried? It is not noticeable on the wrist and I did get a great deal. |

Please help on calibre 215 PS
Update - it turns out the original shape is like this - phew!!! Here is another pic of the net with the gap. I assume it is used to open the back. Thanks all!

What do you think is the purpose of having that gap there? I wonder what the Service Center says once you bring it over.

I think it is for opening the watch which makes sense as there are no screws it is also why the movement cover has a lip. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk That is correct. The case back on my 5905 had the same gap or slot to insert a tool. |
