I think same view For me. My trinity would be replacing AP with ALS. And yes Journe really is a more apples vs oranges comparison.

It’s very different than the 5711 and the 15202 though, in that the 4500v is essentially what happens when you build a Datejust to haute horlogerie standards, whereas the other two are what happens when you try to make an haute horlogerie ultrathin watch look sporty. I take my 4500v to the mountains often enough but would never dare submit an AP 2121 to as much as a bicycle ride over cobblestones, let alone any form of climbing. The 4500v is the watch you own, love and appreciate while the other two appreciate in the back of the safe as people „would“ love to own them.

Yup that’s fair. After thinking about this again, I think the true holy trinity should be: PP, ALS, and VC, with AP on the cusp.
I think micro/boutique brands like Journe and RM are their own category.

All three are beautiful watches! The AP is the most reasonable from attainability, value and practicality

Well VC is relatively easy to get but the AP would be my choice. Would prefer SS AP PC blue dial if I had spare $70k laying around...PP split seconds is not going to happen any time soon. Beautiful though.

The trinity I have is a PP 1567, blue AP 15400 and blue VC 4500 all bought at retail.

The VC 4500 really is a lot of watch for the money, is very versatile with the changeable straps and doesn’t have the silly wait times (same day for me last week).

Next on my wish list is a 5711R but I may be waiting a while for that......

5004 as first PP, still curious why they let me try it on in the first place ? Wouldn’t want random people trying on my $300k application piece....that was at the PP boutique in Hanoi.

Well you never know who’s walking in. It may be evident you can’t or won’t sell the piece there and then. But when someone walks in with an AP ROO on their wrist, you’d assume no harm can come from getting them into the zone by getting some inspiration onto the table. Might put them into the mood of taking something that’s more realistically achievable off your hands. Same reason Mercedes/BMW/Audi made their DTM cars look like the C class/3series/a4 sedans you might purchase after the race (or whichever equivalents of that apply to the awkward grill and headlight stickers they put on the front of NASCAR cars).

My three Holy Trinity watches

Patek Phillipe 3512 (bought in past couple of weeks)

Vacheron Constantin Gen 1 Overseas Chrono (my favourite piece)

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak 14800 (recently sold as not “doing it for me” anymore)

The quality of the VC for an2004 watch is superb. Likewise the PP for a 1970.

The AP, perhaps because on leather strap, just was not a keeper, albeit a fine watch.

Whilst I love the look of a nautilus or an aquanaut, what I really would buy if I had the budget would be a new calatrava in rose gold. However budget dictates that this 1970 one is my PP for a while.

I love the VC and apart from sentimental reasons with my late Dads datejust or an IWC my wife bought me... it is “my one watch”. Don’t feel the need for a newer model.

I’ll skip VC for sure as it doesn’t really do it for me.

Other than that Aquanaut instead of a VC dress watch, that’s a pretty solid lineup I can get behind, but personally I‘d flip the 5167 for a VC traditionelle of some description or a Patek 5227 if there were aversion for VC for some reason. That 12 is a real beaut though
