5167 vs. 5065 A-001

I currently wear a 5167 on the rubber band from 2017 and am thinking I might need a smaller watch to suit my wrist. It appears that the 5065 A-001 is identical to my watch yet is slightly smaller (40mm vs 38mm).

Has anyone worn both and have any feedback on the differences? I am assuming 5065 is harder to get and therefore more expensive. Curious if anyone has thoughts on a potential swap and whether it’s feasible in this market.

The 5165 is identical to the 5167 except being 38mm instead of 40mm. The 5065 is an older design (different dial, different strap, different strap / case transition etc).

The 5165 is quite rare and was discontinued after only a few years. It could be had cheaply for years (not much more than EUR 10k) but asking prices went through the roof more recently in line with all Patek sports watches. Current asking prices are at the level of the 5167 if not a little higher... What went up...

If you have a smaller wrist, don't downplay the 5060A (36mm) and the 5066A (36mm). The original aquanaut is in the low 20s and to me is a great size with lots of strap options. Of course make sure you get the one with "nautilus" on the aquanaut clasp :)

I’m attracted by the case transition of the new 5167.

Oddly enough the Patek Aquanaut anniversary catalog doesn’t show the 5165 but instead shows the 5065 (2007) as being identical to the 5167.

It's a typo. The 5065 was the previous 38mm model.

I was in the same position and much preferred the newer style of the 5167 so tracked down a 5165. Prices are very high, like the 5167, but it fits so well on smaller wrists yet retains the more modern look. Can’t recommend it enough.

Agree with this. The 5165s are so hard to find. The production run was short.

If you find the 5167 slightly on the larger side, you would undoubtedly love the way a 5065 wears!

I believe there was a typo. It’s the 5165 that looks identical to your 5167 but 2mm smaller. The 5065 is older, and at the same size, but looks entirely different, to me anyway. The rubber strap integrates differently, has a different dial layout but also a more raised and 3D like dial presence.
I own both the 5167 as well as 5065, and prefer not only the size but also overall aesthetic of the latter..

Hard to tell from pics alone, but this one looks polished a lot in my eyes...

Avw 5165

I bought the one from AVW. It is perfect! Has had Patek service in may 2020. As new. As my wrist is 17,5cm, this watch is perfect for me!

Congrats! Enjoy it in good health!

As the owner of a 5066, I’d love to be able to buy a Patek sports watch again in 38 or 39mm.

Thank you! I don’t have an account on photobucket, so pictures are a bit hard to upload, I guess. I’ll trie later. The watch is ideal for my wrist. I wear some 40mm Rolex, but the 5167 seemed a bit big to me.

The 5165 is very light, compared to my other watches. That takes some getting used to. On the other hand, it’s quite comfortable.

Know this is an older thread, but I was in the same spot a few months ago. I felt like the 5167 would wear a bit big on my wrist.. even though I don’t mind my Speedmaster or old GMT Master II. I think it’s the integrated strap. So after thinking through it, I decided to get a 5066 instead. Here’s a pic on my roughly 7 in. wrist.
