Cheers chaps. Some good advice. @greenlantern: balanced view.

Still no one with estimated prod numbers?

5170P 👍

I assume all AD’s has multiple piece so going to be 1000-1500 I would guess? They were available from display in London and at my local AD’s. 😍

5170P by a country mile. It very likely has the most beautiful blue dial in my entirely collection.

a PP expert gave me an estimate of 1200, which sounds reasonable to me.

I just can't get comfortable with the diamonds on a mans watch.

I prefer the look of 5712R.

However if 5712R worth sell above retail, and you take the 5170 watch below retail, thats good enough.

The 5712r does look very singular. Much more so than a 5712a that could look to your average punter like another s/s sports watch on bracelet.

I love wearing mine occasionally, the slim case, the warmth of the dial and case, the asymmetry. Plus it's not everyone's taste which is even better in my books.

So i get your point.

The 5170p whilst a target looks a bit 'colder' as a watch.

Your point about valuation is the exact reason why i started this thread.

What do you guys think i should aim to get for my 5712r? I am the only owner this watch had, my name's on papers, it's mint etc.

This thread cracks me up. An almost ubiquitous response for the 5170P, this would have been much different prior to its retirement. The 5170P was always a stunning timepiece, but very few gave it the time of day when it sold for $25k under retail.

But, they're both different watches in my opinion. In some cases, if I could only choose one, I'd choose the 5712R, and in others, the 5170P.

One is automatic, one is manual wind. One has date, one does not. One looks sportier, one is not.
Agree. I like both watches but I like more versatile watches/watches that get a lot of wrist time. I think the 5712R is more versatile being sporty/dressy with rubber composite strap. I had the 5170p and it’s an awesome watch but did not get enough wrist time.

Much prefer the 5170p,,,,beautiful piece. Nautilus with a bracelet would have been closer.

I bought it at an AD, and after getting VAT refunded it worked out the same as "grey" market prices so many others would have done similar... just because the watch was displayed in AD windows doesn't mean it didn't sell.

It's a great piece, and I expect it to be viewed favorably in the future... first in-house PP chronograph, and the ultimate "P" version. It's the same for the 5270P... these can be bought very easily below retail now... but there is only ever one first, and in time, collectors will begin to appreciate this fact.

As for the initial query, clearly I'm in favor of the 5170P... go for it!

I actually would say it depends. I'm a little worn out on manual wound chronograph myself. The 5712 is much more versatile as an everyday watch.

I really like the 5170p but wonder if would get bored with the chrono complication as it wouldn’t get much use day to day to be honest and be more of a collection watch. Amazing quality of course. The 5712r however has moonphase and date so more of a daily wearer with the functionality. The rose gold is also stunning which helps.

The 5712r looks amazing understated on leather strap. No way I make that trade. Def not feeling the diamonds on 5170p

Sorry but if you compare 5712R and 5170P, it’s like you compare David vs Goliath.
The 5170P beats the 5712 in every part...
Dial,movement, material,
